2x2x2 foot or bigger hole , the crown covered with four inches of soil & compost , chalk should give some drainage The funny thing is a lot of people plant the crowns upside down so they die .

I found this in local recycling place. Didn't actually know what it was, but it was made of cast iron and has British made , on it. I liked it , so I bought it. Cost a pound.

5 or 10 ish years ago used to beable to have any thing out the tip they where glad to let it go save the land fill cost now if your there in ours if its in the tip yard unless you can ask the person tiping it can you have, its the tip property you are told

Should have been two of them - indoor clothes hanger, with bits of wood strung between them.

That is a Clothes Pulley Iron.
Just need to find another one for the other end.

Possibly. There are different styles & widths of airer. Not all are 4 lath.

Ours was over the coal fired aga. It may have been bought from aga when it was installed?

As a kiddy in the early 1950's we had a five bar one much longer than the actual fire place in the ceiling a few feet back from the front of the open fire cooking range in the living room . I used to lay on the tatting rug under it looking up and wondering if I would ever get big enough to hang on it like my ten yrs older brother did .

Looking at the break it had clearly been cracked almost through for quite some time.
