You may want to put the fire extinguisher somewhere more accessible?
Nice. Elwell are lovely axes and command good prices accordingly. I have a little Brades Criterion hatchet I got for $5, super steal. Lovely to see good tools working again.
I have been up to similar fun today. I found some handles in a nice tool shop, again American Hickory. You might remember this hammer head I got a few months ago, as well as the two I got the other day and posted on here

I painted up the Warington hammer red for my friend. She does joinery.

And a coat of blue Hammerite for the 2lb ball pein as per all my other eng hammers. Red for wood, blue for metal is the colour coding in the workshop

Oh yes, they chip and scratch but I don't mind. I find colour useful for spotting them, blue stands out much more than grey, just as axes are handy in orange if you're working outdoors.I painted a couple of hammers I restored & very quickly regretted it. In no time at all the paint was badly chipped & they now look awful. I'm going to strip them & wax them like the rest of my hammers.
It's a bit soft, some of the better limbs have gone to a wood turning group but the rest is only good for firewood. Is it all for the burn?
I would love one of the "rounds" if possible?

On a related note, I tried to get a trailer off that freecycle today, got an email back telling me I was too late, but that the chap had turned up to collect it in a car with no towbar. He may or may not be going back for it tomorrow..
Wouldn't mind a copy of machinerys handbook if you fancy parting with it
I remember these books from when I was a kid there was always one around the house or in a box unused , good to see they are still useful now in in the internet worldSorry its a keeper.
Went along to the tender centre and found these lovelies, haggled them for $7. Particularly liked the balls, they're still in waxed paper and oil, never used.

I know you like history, so if you don,t know, Hoffmann was one of the many large old industrial firms in Chelmsford that have all gone now....
