I heard that story about a tube company, Accles & Pollock comes to mind, Yanks sent over a sample of tube, it was returned with another inside. No idea if it’s true or not.Heard a lovely story many years ago about some yankee company who claimed to have made the smallest diameter drill in the world.
They sent it to Dormer in Sheffield who promptly drilled a hole through it and sent it back.

I heard the same story about Fine Tubes in Plymouth forty years ago. There must have been a lot of companies making tiny tubes and drills back in the day!

Very much along the lines of the USAF sending a photograph taken at high altitude from one of their spy planes of a UK RAF base and the RAF sending them an overhead shot of their spy plane taking the photograph!

I like that story that is an urban myth about the US battle cruiser that radioed another obstruction on the radar “ this is the USS ……. I've got a tree stump that I've dug a bowl out of for trying to learn how to shape metal, but a mate had another tree cut down and gave me this (buckets in the background for scale).
It smells lovely, as well. He thinks it's a bit of fir of some kind.

Fresh conifer smells good. When you chip the brush it smells nice, kinda medicinal. Eucalyptus is nice too.
A new spare wheel for the van.
Dropped the original from under the van a couple of nights ago, (the one on the right), after a battle royal with the seized mechanism to find the tyre flatter than a flat thing and the rim rustier than a rusty thing, and when I tried to put some air in it the valve broke off in my hand
. Found a spare on Ebay that arrived yesterday afternoon so I had a trip to a tyre place in the sprawling metropolis of West Auckland this morning for a new tyre to be told that the original is still in date and in good order so the nice young man swapped it over to the new rim.So instead of forking out for a new tyre, all it cost was £10
. To balance that out, I'll doubtless end up looking like Charlie Williams by the time I've fettled the rust off the old rim

Having had the great pleasure to meet and talk to an ex RAF camera operator I suspect these myths are actually rooted in truth
The UK and USA may be allies but they will always be rivalry
