Mine worked very well until the inner pipe got a layer of corrosion on the inside (stored in a damp shipping container) it was enough to throw something off for it not to run as well. New pipe welded in and it was back in business. Might be worth checking on yours that there's nothing in there from the welding that could be throwing the air off.
Thanks Jimbo , everything is in good order . Once the jet is in an identical venturi to the same depth held in the vice it's off roaring like a gas cutting torch , so I've concluded it is the back pressure in the furnace reducing the oxygen needed for a good burn. I might end up modifying it to take an old Henry vacuum cleaner inside a screw top barrel intake hose in a flange on the side and put the out going air through a flanged pipe or three via a rotatable circular plate air control box .
But as I'm struggling a bit physically and find trying to hump my home made forge about to work on it is impossible at present , so at 05.00 hrs this morning I ordered a £ 285 three burner gas forge from Lithuania via Bay .. due here in 11 days time .
