Colchester bantam, 1920s... But I don't know if the cross slide came from elsewhere since...

Biggest problem for me is the thread centre is 0.075" off centre. The gib is holding it off

Thought it was about time the truck Acquired a bit of TLC. Usually its given a good coating of WD40 every month, but it needs jet washing off after a while as the dirt sticks to it. Every so often I strip it all off and give her a good polish

An email from Colchester confirming the lathe I bought when slightly very mished was built in 1922. ..

Actually, a very nice man (Mick Senior) at Colchester decided to double check his info... And it turns out it's from 1928 not 2 as he thought. And the firm it was sold to, my lathe still has their name plaque. It's nice to roughly date, but I'm stoked to be able to sales date it.

Today I acquired....the ability for my DeWalt strimmer to cut like a STIHL.

Would you believe it....they use exactly the same thread, pitch etc.

I bought the DeWalt on a recommendation....but it turned out they redesigned the head to be a load of rubbish.

So happy today

go a couple of booklets (one is 55 and the other is 64 pages)from the 1950's about steel production and finishing into raw materials today. I got one off ebay for £0.99 and £2 postage, and then she said she had the other one for free if I wanted it, as she was just going to throw it away. How can you refuse an offer like that.....now I get things like this to donate to the industrial museum that I volunteer at, so I think they will be a welcome addition to the library. it would be rude not to show a couple of random pages

Would you believe it....they use exactly the same thread, pitch etc.

I bought the DeWalt on a recommendation....but it turned out they redesigned the head to be a load of rubbish.

Never had issue with mine and curious.

Yup...when my mate bought it and recommended it they had a double spindle. They switched to single....so as it's feeding it all gets tangled up.

The bonus is I can also use the 2.4mm line which does cut a lot better I think....and is easier to work with.

It's a simple bolt on job...no mods required. I really like the STIHL one as the spool has clips for easy reload...and the feed holes are open at the top too....lot less faff.

Excuse the cat...he has to have a sniff of everything!

Yup...original DeWalt was double.

I called my mate up and asked why I had a tangled birds nest...he just kept saying it's easy just wind up the spools...eventually we worked out they'd made it a load of rubbish and mine wasn't the same as his..

Thankfully the STIHL spool fits and is an excellent design....the 2.4mm is a lot better for what I need (edging me allotment plot). It mows down everything.
