Well new spindle arrived, installed it, checked runout....6 times more runout than the old one..

The cynic In me thinks they've sent me the dodgy spindle they've had on the shelf for a while that they didn't know what to do with. 99% of people wouldn't check the runout.

could you not get your old one welded up and re-cut?

Would almost certainly cost more than a replacement.

That's the plan. It's out of spec.

Yep, someone else’s returned item, I expect. Request a replacement, that is in spec, would be my next move - but depends on how much ’six times’ is. 6 times virtually zero may still be pretty good, but six times the specified maximum run-out would likely trash cutters in short time and/or reduce bearing life.

Their next obstructive move would likely claim it is a hobby machine, not rated for commercial use.

Thankfully not, it's not a hobby machine nor is it sold as such.

Looking at the pics in the 1st post there does not seam to be any chamfer on the start of the thread !
