how can you say that from a picture ,,, it may not be pretty but thats a different issue , 60 tons of steel wasnt cheap , so Ill bet some one with relevant qualifications or experience will have signed for it as ok.
Trouble is that on the internet every ones an expert.

Given there was 60 tons sitting on those "supports", I don't think you have to be too expert to think those welds don't really look up to the job.

There are different sorts of experts

Some are experts in a trade, job, task or function

Then we have experts in creating challenge just because they can

Every employer shall ensure that –
(a) lifting equipment is of adequate strength and stability for each load, having regard in particular to the stress induced at its mounting or fixing point;

Don't care about at work we do structural work using 6013 .
It doesn't have even penetration on vertical up because it's cheap.
We also use Lastek 85 which claims to be like a 7018 but works like a 6013/308L electrodes
I've learned to just not care about

Your liable when it fails and kills somone?
Doing a good weld doesnt take any longer

take photos nowadays as it gives you evidence

Perhaps but its not correct.

If that the attitude of the organisation you work for then questions need to be asked

Unless you step back, look at the drawings, and realise (there aren't any ) either the verbal instruction to "lift here" took no notice of where it said to lift on the drawing, or it wasn't thought about, either because it wasn't to be lifted, or they forgot.

I may have forgotten a couple of times very early in my engineering career to consider how to get the machine on the lorry . . . frantic welding of lifting points and a quick splash of paint as the driver waited to load . . . I don't tend to forget these days
