Given there was 60 tons sitting on those "supports", I don't think you have to be too expert to think those welds don't really look up to the job.

I doubt all the weight is on them.

if its sitting on them all they are is in compression , so they just have to hold the bit in place till the weights on .

It’s not just sitting on them though, it’s leaning round corners and bouncing up and down being exposed to shocks and vibration for hours.

Don't care about at work we do structural work using 6013 .
It doesn't have even penetration on vertical up because it's cheap.
We also use Lastek 85 which claims to be like a 7018 but works like a 6013/308L electrodes
I've learned to just not care about

Similar here Kim. The welding wasn't as bad. But that yoke and roll combo weighs 70 ton. Held up by a bit of 5mm angle with some pissy little tacks.

60 ton doesn't bounce up and down on a lorry. That's how why mills and Pressbrakes don't fall over in transport, the downward force is just too high for it to bounce or lean.

My tuppence:
1. That bit of angle isn't doing much, it's just stiffening an RSJ which the actual weight will (probably) rest on when sat in place. Looks like an afterthought when it was all made, and they thought, lets tidy these exposed ends up a bit.
2. whoever designed it didn't even SLIGHTLY think about lifting points which is a bit naughty.

The whole point is that it may not actually be deficient at all ,,, just not pretty.

Anyone who looks at that weld can see it's undercut, not penetrated properly and not even along the complete joint. I can see 5 defects (circled) before we even get to the holes in it. Deficient is an understatement and I am being more than generous there. If I had turned out anything like that in my Crane Fruehauf days I would have been told to go and never come back. It's a disgrace.

Then what looks like a crack

There is (quite literally) nothing correct about that mess of a weld.

The point still stands though, there's a big difference between a static load of 60 tonnes and the dynamic loading of 60 tonnes decelerating, cornering, hitting pot holes etc.

actually they cant ,,, n5 vision test pass cert is required ,,,, but it looks like they can be welders instead .

I often weld with my eyes closed, if I cannot get the mask under the car or whatever, but the sound tells you a lot about how the weld is going, and yes I do look after I open my eyes!

Iv been guilty(and lazy) of putting my air fed kit on for two racks so turned my head and a quick blast masked under an old gauntlet but Kim’s pics show some really bad welding

I know some people that think they can weld and will honestly cause an accident one day

Not the drivers responsibility if it has badly welder points, and it could collapse due lack of quality control ?

It's not up to the driver to sign off whether an object is structurally sound.

The driver is charged with transporting it safely.
