It's not so much green power being the reason for changing to a PHEV it suits our lifestyles and better still our finances .
Using our solar panels to charge on a sunny day like we will be doing today ( wife is collecting our daughter for friends 17 miles away ) sees us being paid to charge our car . This was one of the main considerations of us getting solar PV panels and a PHEV .
It costs far less to use mains electricity to charge for a 31 mile journey than a gallon of petrol , the mains electricity charge cost is reckoned to be far less pollution than petrol at the end of the day .
Locally we have some 23 wind turbines ,they have been up & running for almost five years , each turbine is reckoned to be able to supply 4,000 households with electricity per day .
At present , most days they are moderated for minimal generation as the national grid does not need their input but some days they are generating like mad
Yes, but its cheap to run electric cars now because they are a tiny minority of vehicles on the road, and councils and government can use them to wave the green placard. If a tipping point came and the government started to lose serious amounts of tax revenue from petrol/diesel sales, which they will, then they are going to tax leccy used for transport just as heavily.
Wind turbines ? Hate the things. I went through an area in the south of the country i used to go on holiday in as a kid, lovely valley, great scenery, and they had it covered in hideous ugly windmills. Plus they are useless if the wind does not blow . Put them out at sea by all means.
