Can you show some pics of the MBX surface prep tool that you used please
Hey it's one of these. I've been in two minds about the tool, at first I didn't like it, found it slow and no way near as good as the manufacturer claims. But after using it a bit it's been really good, I've used it on several projects. It removes almost as well as sand blasting and leaves a good clean surface but it won't get into corners, but will get into small pits. At £300 I don't think it's worth it for most people but if the price goes down with time to £200 then it would be a good tool to own. The belts cost £15 and I used about three to do the entire car including using them to remove a lot of the stone chip, the bitumen sound damping pads, all the old seam sealer and then the paint and rust, so not bad going. The other big catch is that you have to resharped the belt quite often, only takes 20 seconds, you flip the belt over backwards and then use the tool on a grinding stone, then flip back. So my technique was to just have the grind stone next to me all the time, I would blast about 20 sq.cm of metal, then flip the belt, sharpen, flip back and continue. It just becomes habit eventually.
And it's nothing like a wire brush which is what a lot of people think. The bristles are sharpened and it's more of a chiselling effect against the metal.
