I think they are just a fast and easy low cost fix. You'd need to cut them off. That's why I went for security bolts. So how do you get them off to service the winch

Hi iam just reading through to learn how to restore my car iv never heard of epoxy mastic can you tell me more about it i had a google it comes in 2 tins i just paint it on with a brush?
I should use it in areas to resist stone chips start such as wheel arches?
Sealed the seams on some of the parts today, before the last layer of epoxy primer goes on. And got about half way through removing the underseal off the chassis. There's only a few rust areas on the chassis so once the underseal is off hopefully I can have those fixed within a week. I found a local sand blasters that will blast the chassis for £110. Seems a bargain compared to doing it myself with all the dust annoying my neighbours and the cost of media..
Hi. I’ve been following your progress restricting your Vitara. Can’t aay I understood much of it tho. I work in a car Bodyshop in reception so can pick up bits and pieces but that’s about itFinally finished getting the underseal off, I think it must have totalled to two days work. The flat bits were easy, but getting it out of all the nooks and crannies was slow. At the end I discovered that a blow torch works way better than a heat gun.
I put a lot of effort into getting the underseal out the corners and crevices so that the sand blaster can get in there afterwards. I'm thinking these are the most important areas because it's where the rust starts. In the areas where my scraper couldn't reach I used a dental scraper. And where that couldn't reach I just held the blow torch until the underseal turned to char. There's still char left in there but the sand blaster will get that off.
I've only got two serious rust areas, so I cut the metal out. I showed my bro who told me off for cutting square corners, told me to always cut rounded corners. I doubt it makes much difference when welding butt repairs. But it is actually easier to drill the corners so the next bit I cut out using a drill in the corners.
Next to get back to shiney metal where I'm going to weld. I tried making citric acid gel - failed to get that to work. So I tried my new pressure pot blaster, result! Never used one before, it's really effective.

Hey, when you say the seals are rusted, I assume you either mean the door sills or the seams (where the various panels meet). I would go to a specialist like Rust-Busters who can assess it, tell you how much life there's left in the car based on the progress of the rust. There's many ways of dealing with rust, from just spraying it with a rust stopper like Dinitrol thru to cutting it all out. The right option really depends on how bad it is, how accessible the rotted area is, how much money you have, and how much more life you want out the car.Hi. However I wanted to ask for some help from you. I have a Vitara convertible 2004. The seals are badly rusted. I had an issue some years ago with the catalytic converter but it turned out there was no phalanges so I had some welded on. The car had some scrapes and dents as u can imagine but it’s only for 6800 miles on the clock. I love this car and want to bring it back to how it was. I need to mechanically sound so it’s not going to die permanently on me in a year or two and I want the bodywork restores. What is the best way to go about it? Get the mechanical work done as I would at a normal garage or find someone that restores cars? This car means a lot to me and has a lot of sentimental value I would be really upset to have to get rid of it I’ve seen you restoring urs so u know what ur talking about so I’m hoping I could give me a pointer in the right direction. Many thanks
Louise
Thats a blast from the past didn't know he was still going.
K9RDJ was another good source of info but it looks to have gone too.
