Right, car looks lovely, we've had a reasonable number of Spitfires in our family. Couple of pals had GT6/ GT^'s converted to convetibles.
What you're trying to do looks, imho, pointless. You'd be better served looking for a compact coilover unit and mounting it more conventionally. You're going to have forces going all sorts of places that they needn't otherwise.

Many people who want to get away from this arrangement merely fit coilovers in place of the damper, although there are queries over whether the damper mountings should be strengthened.
