Suggest a drill sharpening system

I have a slow speed Creusen grinder but wont embarrass myself with hand sharpening drill, so can anyone suggest a simple drill sharpening system for touching up those blunt drills which I am loathed to throw away?

Just learn to do it by hand, it'll take a lot of practice to get them perfect but it doesn't take much to get a blunt drill cutting again.

Loads of plans for tool and cutter grinders on the internet but learning to do it by hand is less work!

mines homemade and also does other things to sharpen

id looked for ways to sharpen things but im not a lover of fingers near grinders

@slim_boy_fat just got a quorn sharpener also homemade

both are on the forums

at least we can grind a 4 faset onto a drill

Yup, had one for 20yrs. So good I re-cut new drill bits over 6mm as they are never the correct angle.
Expensive but you only buy it once.

I have a old drill sharpener, what you switch on and drop and twist the bits and it will dress the edge.

I used to be able to hand sharpen them, but issues makes it difficult. But cost of nits, I find it is cheaper to buy new ones.

Flat bits, Forester bits, augers and similar I will hand sharpen.

Fun and peaceful.

Yes looking at decent sharpeners I can buy a lot of bits for the price, I will have another go at hand sharpening, starting with some bigger sizes.

YES JUST PRACTICE MATE I SAVE ALL MY BLUNT ONES UNTIL I HAVE 20 or so then sharpen them all in one go as i loose the nack and get out of practice after a couple u get the nak again

I did thousands of drill bits as an apprentice as well as mushroomed punches and blunt chisels.

At the time I was doing those I’d of put your drill doctors to shame I had that much practice.
I can still crack out a near perfect 135° on a 4mm bit I’m just not as quick as I was 20 years ago.

My peepers are not what they used to be and I struggle sharpening sub 3mm drills so I bought a screwfix sharpener, total waste of time and money. Reading the thread with interest hoping someone suggests a decent sharpener thats not too spendy.

I got a proxon sharpener of ebay there normally 145 quid I got it for £85 opened but never used still hasn't its in the box still one of these days il try it just normaly do them by hand which is ok but not if you want accuracy specially on small drills . I have a reliance drill sharpener very accurate but a bit of a pig to set up

good news and bad news the good news I got a rawlpug sharpener new for 15 quid instead of 30 from boot sale bad news it was crap and went in the bin . was choked at loosing 15 sovs

i have the lidl knife sharpener at work that has a drill attachment to it wrks ok ish if you set it up right

That reminds me, I came across a ‘sharpening system’ that I bought the hubby several years ago. Forgotten who made it, but it came in a clear plastic case, and is yellow in colour.

If I remember, it claims to be able to sharpen everything, including drills.

He only used it once, too complicated for him.
