That’s the other thing as well. To split a point by hand on a wheel is not easy. The wheel needs a good sharp edge. Often I don’t bother any more as a centre dot dose the job of getting a pilot through fine. Split points are very useful on bigger drills if you don’t need to pilot and centre dot you can generally get a big bit to do it straight through with no wonder if you’ve got a good point that starts cutting straight away. I can do it on my green wheel but once the edge of the wheel loses the corner it’s no good for it.
