I can teach free hand sharpening of drills in a very short period of time. Its amazing hiw many lack this simple and essential skill today.I have a slow speed Creusen grinder but wont embarrass myself with hand sharpening drill, so can anyone suggest a simple drill sharpening system for touching up those blunt drills which I am loathed to throw away?
good god that was the rawlplug one I got cheap and chucked it in the bin wonder how much that nurd got paid for advertising that crapHere we are, Tommy Walsh approved too.
Remember those days well.. Boss brought me a ruddy great box of old drills and just said " bring them back sharp and cutting evenly" . Through asking help from the guys in the machine shop to how and a week of struggle stress and toil i learned a skill for life..I did thousands of drill bits as an apprentice as well as mushroomed punches and blunt chisels.
At the time I was doing those I’d of put your drill doctors to shame I had that much practice.
I can still crack out a near perfect 135° on a 4mm bit I’m just not as quick as I was 20 years ago.

Just tried mine out and very impressed so far although I am at home and have not actually tested the drills out but they do look good and it is very easy to use.Funny that I clicked on the Amazon 750X yesterday afternoon, this place is a bad influence.
I guess I will be spending the weekend sharpening bits.
BTW what is the advantage of sharpening to a split point?
Mine is not here yet... Drums fingers whilst waiting to pounce on the Amazon delivery.Just tried mine out and very impressed so far although I am at home and have not actually tested the drills out but they do look good and it is very easy to use.
It arrived too late last night to take it to the garage and make lots of noise.Mine is not here yet... Drums fingers whilst waiting to pounce on the Amazon delivery.

That’s where they are bloody handy things. Anything smaller than 4mm I have to chuck out now. Cant seem to hand grind a nice edge on the little ones.Tested mine out again today on a load of drills and all came out perfect, smallest was the one in the pics below, a 2.8mm that had snapped. I ground the end flat as per first pic.

Into the drill doctor and ground and split pointed it and it was spot on, drilled a bit of 316 and as good as any I have used.

That is the main reason I have been thinking of getting one for the last few years, just can't see well enough nowadays for the small drills and although sharpening bigger drills was easy by hand, now I have this I will just use it for them as wellThat’s where they are bloody handy things.
