Following on from krams post about Bambu image to 3d…
I’d been trying to make a miniature replica of a plastic penguin as Christmas present (long story).

I tried meshy which made my computer cry and didn’t really produce anything useable.

I whacked this photo into the Bambu thing:


And I’ve just printed this:


It’s not perfect but it took about three minutes to produce the model and ‘cost’ two of the 70 credits I seem to have accumulated (apparently I get 18 a month. I’m really very impressed!

Just need to paint it now.

ABS doesn't normally suffer from damp

How's bed adhesion? I've had thos before, part lifts off the bed and touches the nozzel

It hadnt lifted it was well stuck down. The print got worse so I stopped it, the inside wall of the part was not sticking to the supports.

My previous abs prints came out perfectly smooth but this spool has been open a while, think it must be moisture, settings or this model.

Opened a new ABS spool, a CC3D grey. Its much better but still not perfect. First layer is rough

Currently printing a kite winder and that is the inner handle. It has four bearings that run in a groove

Tried the outer spool again nice big gap there which it didnt fill in, tho next layer hides it.

Like the first attempt, the OD first layer is rough and I cant understand why.

I’m not quite sure from the pictures @Kram what the spool looks like but if it’s got a bit of a curvy profile you could try slicing it as ‘Arachne’ and see if that smooths it up a bit?

Obviously that won’t help if the filament isn’t happy but might be worth a go.

@Kram look up / try ASA as an ABS alternative.

For your rough first layer it looks as though you're either slightly over extruding or your 1st layer calibration is too close...or combination of the two.

For the gap mid layer, it looks as though the extruder was temporarily under extruding...try increasing nozzle temperature.

The rough OD on first layer, verify what it looks like in the slicer and that the model is actually flat on the bed.

As above try upping the temp a bit... 5'C is probably enough but test to see and play with it a bit

Any noise from the hot end? I've had popping noises before as moisture flashes off to steam

Can't see your printer type, looks modern, assuming it has auto bed leveling?

Cooling fan is off yeah?

I've been taking advantage of the big bed and fast printing speed of the H2D and, among lots of other things, have printed lots and lots of little drawers:

All that lot were done in three prints (and I could have done them in two if I hadn't wanted to print just one first to check the size).

I also used the laser capability to cut and engrave some labels out of acrylic (the white balance is off in this photo; it's black-on-white acrylic laminate):

They fit nicely into the slots in the front of the drawers:

I haven't filled many of the drawers yet (hence only doing six labels) but the drawers will be useful for a variety of little parts. The drawers (and the printed cabinet) fit into an empty bit in a cabinet in the dining room (which serves mainly as my home office these days).

The space in front will be used, but only for things that are quick to pull out of the way (at the moment there's just the gas soldering iron that I use to insert the heatset inserts, so blocking those drawers with the soldering iron isn't really a problem).

I have that problem a lot. Blocking draws i dont suppose anyone has a solution.?

The best i can think of is creating a ushape upturned so the draws can be raised up an item rarely used stored under the u.

It could be a box without a rear. (bottom if the box is turned on its side. Cutting them out of ply with a laser seems the best idea to me.

No noises but the new filament was better. I'm going to bake the old spool in oven for a few hours.

For the gap mid layer, it looks as though the extruder was temporarily under extruding...try increasing nozzle temperature.

The slicer seems to divide the layer up into sections and its always where the sections join, as if it has forgotten a bit.
I'm running the flow rate calibration hopefully that will help.

Another drawer unit, this time in a bid to stop me from ever buying another USB micro cable when I can't find one

Four prints in total, one 10 hour print for the carcase, one 4 hour print for the four big drawers, one 2¾ hour print for the four small drawers and a 1 hour print for the labels (which I probably should have done with a smaller nozzle as they're a bit shabby). Designed yesterday, finished today - it was taking full advantage of the big bed size on the new printer:

Currently printing launcher barrel in ABS. Same ABS as before, the first layer is awful and immediately some of the brim lifted but the rest seems ok. Calibratiom seems to have helped.

I'm now getting a reasonably loud belt sqeak or chirp from the right stepper/pully area. Any ideas?
