Just tried printing my first gear. A 35T for an old Myford/Drummond.
Used PETG. Turned out fine. Wonder how long it will last though?
Printed on an Elegoo 3d max.

How did you get the pitch etc?
I tried to print one for my Bridgeport power feed.
I used ABS Pro and it printed out awesome.
Sadly it was the wrong amount of teeth and I did not have a clue how to adjust it.

There are various bits of software. I cheated though. Found a nice chap had already posted the files.
2 sizes missing though so will have to get the calculator up and running. Will let you know the solution.

Gear dxf is free online and will generate a 2d dxf for any spur gear, then I imagine you just pull it into 3d. There are any number of alternatives too but I used that one to generate a file for @cheb to make a backgear for a meddings drill and it was very simple and effective.

Making...work in progress. Got a busted shower control. There was a circa 6mm handle that snapped off. Idiot boy that I am tried to drill it out in situ.

Didn't figure until too late I could have removed the part. Consequently I drilled and tapped a new hole too far over It fouls the operation.

Looking to remake this with external indents to grip and no handle.

Problem is the shower and printer are 12 miles away. So it's print a guess at the "gear" profile then travel to try it.

I was printing some snowflakes for the Mrs and the filiment stopped feeding and subsequently the hot end jammed up. I can't sort it so I have ordered new parts.
The Ender 5 is now built but not tested. I still have this stupid chest infection and it is taking its toll.
Hopefully I will be back at it by the weekend

For what it's worth, generating gears in OnShape only takes a couple of clicks - I used this to make one of the change gears for my Harrison M250:

Not so simple with mine I think.
They are not straight.
I am pretty sure a guy on a Facebook forum sent me a file to print mine.

GearDXF has the ability to extrude the gear, add a centre hole and ouput an STL file so you do not need anything else.

And therein lies the problem of people who slavishly copy the original without giving any thought to how the gear will be produced. The recess in the gear has sharp sides, bad enough in metal as a stress riser, but so much worse in squirted plastic.

The other thing I have never seen in any gear software directed at 3D printing is the ability to alter the root of the tooth. For subtractively-machined (cut) gears, the root is a function of the swept path of the cutter. For additively manufactured ones, the root can be much more rounded, just to allow clearance with the mating gear, and thus much stronger.

FreeCAD can make helical gears. The challenge will be finding the specifications to use as input values.

Yeah, that makes it more complicated! I'm sure it's "just" a case of drawing a spiral at the right helix rate and then extruding along that path, but it's definitely more than a couple of clicks! It also has the challenge of measuring the helix...
