Been making some steel doors out of 50mm box and 2mm steel plate to replace completely mashed ali ones on the back of our tipping trailer ,facing and bolting 6mm steel plate on the rear of tipper so we can weld on steel hinges and make it all a bit more telehandler/excavator proof.







Not a bad bit of penetration , its not my welding its Mick my welders.

I thought mick was a master pharter?? not a welder?

My next load of work to do.on my own lorry this time.is fab a new tailgate. It's looking a bit of a mess and had a hard life.

Me & my Dad made one of them for a tarmac lorry, Insulated it too. Dont think I have any finished pictures sadly. Why the guy needed 5 doors I don't know but he was happy with the end result.

Nice work ... I seen a lot of tarmac lorries with five shoots.somtimes it's easier to have five for when you have tarmac left over and don't have to get in the buck to shovel it out. I have two in mine as I have a couple of chaps that do the barrow work.and there is a divide up the centre so it can empty both sides and only leaves the odd bit just inside the doors. Would like to build one with an augar in it but ain't got round to it as yet.it's on the I will do one day list lol

I made a welding table, well I worked on it for a bit, finished it on friday:

6mm sheet metal top, angle iron frame. Everything came from the junk yard. I plan to add more stuff to it as time goes.

Last night I decided to tackle the prospect of beefing up my welders dust-protection since it sits in a woodworking shop (I am working on improving dust collection too) (I weld outside). It is well sealed and the intake has a filter (quite coarse though). To start with I am making a clear cover for the controls, using a tig wire as a temporary fixture:

This cheap plastic glass got very brittle after heat forming it though, perhaps I should spring for real polycarbonate. Next is a lid or hatch for the filter intake. I haven't yet decided how to mount it, hinge I suppose.

Well.....as my welder is on its way to oerlikon hq. I set about the task of making the tarmac shoots for the new tailgate I have got to make. Nothing exciting but it's something.

A little more progression. Made the lifting brackets today and the swivel plates.

Been sort of busy today. Made all the pivot plates ect. Just working on the handles now. Think I have over engineer them.but they will not brake or snag up.

Not bad considering all I use is an angle grinder. Cutting discs. Scriber. Steel rule and square. And a hand drill ect.

All 5mm mild steel. The arms are 12mm. They shouldn't brake. Plus with the grease points they should work a treat .

Tidy job, just goes to show what can be done with fairly basic hand tools. No need for a CNC plasma, folder, press, belt linisher, etc. though they would be nice to have!

It's not metal but there are nails in it.

Basic hand tools. Only big electric tools I have are a warco bench grinder. Pillar drill that I brought other day.and my welding equipment. But most of the stuff I make is by hand.
