Your gout, taking allopurinol daily and colchicine if it flares up?

Yes two tables a day, the Allopurinol helps but doesn’t get rid of the pain because I have only one kidney due to cancer, then it came back on my heart now in my lung if I was a dog I would have been put down years ago.

I think you've done yourself a disservice by not providing any scale reference, is that to fit the Pultura spindle?

The square no 10 UNF weld nuts for the centre binnacle in a Mini aren’t available so I’ve been on a side quest welding up M6 versions and re taping them to imperial to match the originals.

I hope your bungalow is a better shape than my workshop, it is only about 12ft wide but about 40 or 50ft long, just totally the wrong shape for machines.

You would do well making ship prop shafts in there!
Or masts for those eco friendly boats that don't have an engine, I think they call them yott's

That's a tile stamp that I've repaired on this morning at work, case hardened steel stick welded using 312L electrodes nothing special but I didn't have time to even breath after completing this job

Ever tried wearing a pair of two sizes too large soft cotton rubberised glove when playing , take off for fiddly stuff and put them back on .
I've found these gloves help a lot and cushion when I grip things / play on the my lathe , they keep my whole hand and wrist toasty warm too.

I also use thicker but similar orange coloured cushioning gloves from Screwfix when nut & bolt strangling to stop my hands & fingers hurting .

Dapph2 I have tried wearing gloves but not big ones but it’s not help.

Then machined a little block of steel and soldered it on.

I left it as a single block and split it after soldering so I could ensure good alignment. I used my best vintage, cadmium-bearing silver solder, REACH compliance be damned! It did flow into one of the holes, but I'd actually drilled them the wrong sizes so it needed re drilling anyway.

A bit of fileing and they're about done, just need to make some jaws to bolt on. I need to finish the bare steel too, I'm thinking I might grit blast and cold blue them.

I finished my pliers today.



I went for ally jaws so they'd be non-marring (ish), 15mm inside jaw and a 16mm diameter groove, 2.5mm deep on the mating jaw. I didn't account for springback unfortunately, a 15mm former is too big to make a 15mm ish ring, but the beauty of it is half an hour at the mill and I can make up a new pair of jaws.

As these need re-making, why not stress test them on an (annealed) penny and a 3x10mm piece of brass.



I think that's pretty good, though I'll regret not splurging on the more comfortable handles if I have to do much more like that.

I wonder how the cheap arts and crafts type bending pliers would far in such a test.
