Well, I finally fitted the interior light unit I bought three years ago into the back of my little van, every summer I say I am going to fit it and it's winter and freezing cold before I actually look at the job. It's only been three or four years.

My boss owns it, lets me use.
While I could have hired one, about 60-100/day, I have no way of collecting, and hire company delivery is not cheap! And no time pressure like a day hire would be.

Small ones I dig around and go for the roots with pickaxe but a big one like this, its impossible.
Rawstone hire is not far from you, the Preditor 360 is a reasonable machine, but still a small one.

Yes, one in Sevenoaks. No stumps here. Too many trees! Access to some big plant though if I need it.
More "unmade" than made .....
Took advantage of the dry weather to finally strip-off the damaged side of the outbuilding roof that Storm Darragh did a mischief to.
I found that whoever put the ridge tiles on used copious amounts of concrete (yup, concrete!) to bed them - so they were a swine to get off - I used an air chisel in the end, & all but 3 broke getting them off.
The slate battens though - rotten as hell. Getting the slates off saw the battens just coming away from the rafters - gravity was the primary thing keeping it all in place.
A few of the rafters are I think a bit too iffy & will have to be changed, and the whole thing needs treating for worm & hardened before I can try to membrane & batten this half of the roof & try my hand at re-slating it.
I also need to try to repair the rotten foot onto the wallplate on the unstripped side, and replace the rotten wall plate on the side being worked on first.
But.... its a start.

A bit of box section with a cut out for a router table set up and off cuts of smaller box to make it longer, so now i can make skirting and trims
Needed a drain plug key for a Peugeot transmission, but the cranked tool I have got by with was too bulky to fit in situ with it in the car so made one from a old 3/8 extension that had lost its retaining ball bearing and spring.
Started off with good intentions to mill it square once sized and set it up in a square collet block, but it was tough stuff and the chrome vandium polished surface was ultra slippy so it kept walking in the collet block under the cutting force.
I was going to grind it square on the surface grinder, but there was something already set up on the chuck I didnt want to disturb so I just linished it square on the little belt grinder using the collet block on the rest to keep it square and rotating it periodically.
Worked really well, job done, no faffing about waiting for one to arrive and I'll put it in the toolbox for next time.

Well, set a bit of stainless up to make the replacement cross slide Handle support holder thing for the Colchester. I wasn't going to be messing about so put the three jaw on with some soft jaws:

Then flip it end to end to straighten out the hole, as you would expect, it didn't appear on the other side concentric to the billet:
Finished up lovely:
Need to watch the sharp edges, just a word of warning, a bit of stainless swarf WILL go septic:
Turn the OD then again end to end and just spot on:
There is no need to be so exact really as it is getting profiled, do that today:
Stainless does machine lovey but it is also something to be wary of, it will cut you as soon as look at it!

A pair of gates and matching fence panels for either side for a neighbour, he needs to replace the cheap bike lock which somewhat spoils the appearance. Having seen @Thrashsmith ’s beautiful work I’m a bit ashamed to post them in the same thread, but they fit the criteria, I made them!

Finished the part off today, Came out well and I managed to control the howling from the profiling tool pretty well. Being stainless I was being a bit cautious:
Then I heard a rattling from the outboard spindle end, I didn't need this:
It was the swarf off the boring bar rattling out the end!
Trial fit up of the shaft, the chamfer on the hole is misleading it was a good interference fit:
As I was now generally happy with the overall job I set it up in the Mill:
It needed machining so the cross slide wil go over the top. Then I needed to drill and tap a couple 2.5mm holes for the shroud that carries the marker for the dial, you know in that thread where we are talking about tools we rarely use, well this is one of mine, a tiny keyless chuck. When I need it, nothing else will do, I need it about once every couple years:
Then tap them out 2.5mm. The secret to this is to drill the 2mm tapping holes out to 2.15mm or even 2.2mm and if needs be, use loctite Or chance a snapped tap.

As it doesnt actually do anything other than hold the line stationary over the clock wheel it is not mission critical.
What is going to be a deal breaker is this small idler wheel that I need to transpose onto the new housing. Snag is, it is tight and I don't know whether it screws all the way through, Left hand Right hand, also it is brass. Any suggestions anyone @pressbrake1 do you have any suggestions?

Thing is, holding it inthe soft jaws and profiling as I was it is quite possible to pull the part out of the chuck.

Managed to figure out the goo file format so I can go straight from Gerber files to Goo files for exposing PCBs on a cheapy resin printer.
PCB is circa 25mm diameter and 0.2mm clearance to between tracks.

Drilling Jig
I have a job for Mrs Miller that requires about 25 right angle brackets, about 30x8x180 (before bending) with 4 5mm countersunk holes in each.
Didn’t fancy measuring, marking, and centre punching each hole so I made up a jig.
Just a few bits of 25x3 flat bar I had kicking about, and a bit of 6x2 left over from the bench build. Which was in turn left over from the shuttering for the shed build in the last house. I like recycling stuff!
The clamp was picked up from a flea market about 35 years ago.
The idea is that you pop the workpiece up against the stop at either end, clamp it down and drill it. Then release the clamp, slide it to the other end, clamp and drill. Then flip it over and repeat the whole process.
Swarf extraction system for the countersinking
Certainly seemed to work ok. I have another batch of larger brackets to make up soon, and there’s plenty of room on the same bit of timber but next time I’ll drill some holes at either end to let the swarf fall through as it tends to mess with the positioning somewhat.
