Was having a bit of a "team day" at Croft one time and my pal was first off in the car I was the change over driver at half way. He came barrelling into the pits and I jammed my helmet on and jumped into the car, he was trying to get out at the same time and all I heard was ......brakes! So I shot off up the straight and into the first corner, a right hander, shoved my foot onto the brake and........ Nothing, straight to the floor. NO BRAKES, he had cooked them. the next hour was "interesting" more like stock cars than saloon cars. I picked up some penalties using other cars to slow down. but hey! I finished and not last either. I just wonder what my consultant would say if I told him I was off motor racing the weekend. Probably have me sign some sort of disclaimer.

Mundane or not, it's time well spent! Having a good supply of flat wooden shims of various thicknesses is a huge time saver when building stuff. The tapered shim packs from the building supply store can be useful of course, but I much prefer using flat shims for most purposes. A while ago, I spent about an hour making at least 200 shims in about 10 different thicknesses in 1/32" increments. They've come in handy on many occasions.

Fed up with not having anything big to wash/degrease stuff in I cam up with a cunning plan, we got given a load of these plastic barrels that origionally contained car cleaning products
ran the jigsaw round it or over it and in half
smashed a bit of timber around it to make it a bit more stable
and while clearing me old dads place he had these in the "might come in useful pile" which I think were origionally fold up school desks,
I saved them for my "might come in useful pile"
and bobs your uncle or whatever they want to call themselves today
all folds up so I can stash it when Its not needed

Had a play with the rotary engraver. Coated stainless steel ring. Quite difficult to set up but happy with the result.

Not all today but finished few moments ago.
Started yesterday after work.
Repaired 2 concrete mixers both had switch failure.
Then this morning checked an electric chainsaw , discovered the fault talked with the customer.
Went to deliver the 2 repaired mixers.
Got paid and collected a Bosch grinder, and a Milwaukee M18 fuel SDS drill .
Moved to the customer storages in the other part of the city.
Collected another identical one with a faulty board , and an M28 SDS drill not worth to repair even not checked it.
Repaired the Bosch grinder,just need to replace the faulty cord
Then the M18 fuel drill .

Haven't posted for a while, but got the steel frame up that had now been galvanized. Fitted 3/4' S/S lines and cable tray to the starboard side frame, assembled on the wharf and lifted into position. It is now bolted to the deck ready for the next bits.
Just a closeup of the light mounts, now all S/S bent from 6mm 316 plate, should now last quite some time. Centre plate is 25mm, is the mount for the 'power block' used to haul up the net, the holes in the plate so the position of the power block can be optimized to suite the operating conditions.
Won't be back to do any more on this for about 3 weeks. Got to go to goal, job in removing an existing blast room and fitting new. Upon return have to build an new hydraulic tank for the boat pictured, fit the new hydraulic pumps and control valves, S/S tube for the plumbing and generally make all things work. I will post some pics as we go.

Had an attempt at splicing an eye on Sirius 8mm cord. Couldnt find any specific instructions, so used Samson's class 1 double braid pdf and YT video. It was a proper pain to get the core back into the cover, seems a wire fid is no good on a tight cover (as the core needs to be founded and too thick) so I made a soft fid from some cheap paracord with the core removed.
When I get access to lathe I will turn some hollow fids out of brass.
I am a bit unsure about one thing which is the core bury length. The instructions have you insert the core at the cover crossover point and then come out a short fid (7* diameter) from the eye, which on 8mm cord is only 56mm !

A friend of mine, Moug, lives on a canal boat.
He makes a good wage making traditional toys.
As he was only a few miles away, I nipped over to see him and the work shop on his Butty.
I was allowed to play with a Bench top CNC machine.
Blank Black plastic and some off cuts of wood.
The white is paint from a simple paint pen, spot the ones were the resin from the wood was not removed.
Wax is bringing up the grain a treat..
Waterslide transfers finished of the box.

A Good MCM, but we knew it had issues.
The last owner left the batteries in.
A few minutes of cleaning.
