Mitered corners are brilliant if they are accurate as they are very strong .
I made a 1300 high x 800 x 800 shelved HDF box on wheels for my portable routing bench using as many mitres as possible so I got the extra strength ( used proper expanding wood glue too ) putting a white Formica top on it so there was a 50 mm over lap all round and then cut a centre hole in the top so I could fit a mounting set up for my big Bosch router mounting plate , put home made oak lipping all round the outer edges of the table top .
Once I'd got my saw bench set to cutting 2 x 45 degree cuts to a marking knife cut line I scribed a fine line on the calibration dial so I could easily set it up for checkable repeat cutting it was a calibration line thickness & a half to the left of the official indicated 45 degree angle when looking at it with a magnifying glass at right angles. I found that when using glasses I often viewed the line slightly at an angle so hade a few thou difference to try and dl with .
In the end I used my new router table with a clamped up at each end fence and a 2 inch cut 45 degree cutter to do all future mitres .

If that's what it looks like after you've cleaned it ............... I'd hate to have seen what it looked like prior to you cleaning it.

Got all the boards on for my corridor, which is definitely not a shed now just need a dry day to fibreglass it.

I previously had a bad experience with this en3b mild steel. In places its ok, others it is horrible to turn. After a failed screw cutting attempt I said never again, only use it for plain handles or similar, no parting!
That was a while ago and I'd forgotten the bit about plain or parting, and I wanted a handle.
It did turn rough, and I hate doing it, but I covered the ways and used p120, p240 and p800 to polish it up. Need to put a 4mm slot in the end and weld it up.

Yeah en3b isn't great for turning, you want en1a as it's got lead in it, or any of the engineering steels en8, 16 etc. En3b is great to weld where you need a bright round.

I think it's the sulphur that makes EN1A free machining, not lead. As I understand it, "EN1A Pb" has lead in; "EN1A" doesn't.

I've made th bathroom different , it's taken me five days to remove the rarely used bath , cut & cap the bath's water pipes and remove most of the screws set in the floor &wall by the so called installing experts . Just got two more difficult for me screws in the floor showing 2 mm of head to remove and then cut the old waste pipe off , extract it and put a new wall tile over the filled up outlet hole then start the tedious job of gently scraping off a couple of cartridges of Gripfill contact adhesive & silicone sealant they used to stick the bath in place .
Found that the flexi hose fittings to the bath tap mono block unit were only finger tight .. leaving evidence of frequent drippage under the bath ..thankfully I had the whole floor under the bath tanked & fitted with Detra one way membrane , fully tiled around all the walls & floor then grouted up before the bath was put in .
For it was always my long term plan to perhaps have a tall half bath with a side gate for me as I become more & more disabled if I couldn't use the shower & seating any more on my own .
What has puzzled me is that the bath hot supply comes off a 22 mm main copper pipe as a 15 mm copper pipe then has an adaptor on the end of the 15 mm copper pipe to take it back to 22 mm on the end of which was a 22 mm plastic hot water pipe which went on the hot tap. Bath cold tap was also 15 mm off a 22 mm copper pipe but was 15 mm all the way .
Is this likely to have been because we have a balanced flue combi-boiler or because the installers were cowboys on subcontract ?

I dont see any use for turning a low strength leaded steel that cant be welded.
I quite like en16m/usacut55 which is high strength with sulphur, and should weld ok.
Ive still got half meter of this en3b 16mm and another 30mm, to use up

New bed arrived from our blue and yellow logo Scandinavian friends. Only one glitch, my fault, which I'll put down to poor lighting and eyesight - hence the Anglepoise brought in for reinforcement. Higher than old bed and the new mattress is amazing.
Couldn't face the drawers this evening, perhaps over the weekend. Back of car has seats down and is full of cardboard but it will get used by a colleague for modelling and prototypes at school.
