Finally made the semi-permanent earth for the bench. This means I can remove the 4metre earth and put it away. This will connect a very short earth from the machine to the bench. Been "getting round tuit" for months.

wheres the vid of it working ?Modified the rocket stove with a secondary air intake on the side. Made a huge difference IMO, no more smoke once the fire is going, just a heat haze. That's what I wanted.

Spent most of the day today shovelling 5½ tons of type 1 aggregate over the access road that goes up the side of the house to the garages. I think I'm going to hurt tomorrow.
Once that was done I had a bit of time to do another practice dovetail, this time using my recently acquired Dozuki, which seems worlds better than my previous one. I hadn't been planning to replace the old saw, but it was my first Japanese saw and I'd managed (through incompetence) to damage some of the teeth and then struggled to get a replacement blade, so I replaced the whole saw with one with more readily available blades. I can't quite believe how much easier it is to produce clean, straight cuts with the new saw.
Still some little gaps here and there, but this is by far the best dovetail I've cut so far. The wood was a bit shabby before I started (and there's a big bit of sapwood in the tail board), but it was only for practice.

Thanks to all who advised on my fitting of a security light with PIR to replace the useless bulkhead light that the Local Authority provide, today I went from this...

Just have to adjust for brightness and 'on' duration, but for the price I'm really happy. I think I've got the 'sensing' bit pretty spot on so that passing cars won't trigger it or be blinded.

Cross drilling! Started these connectors ages ago. I found 35mm² welding cable is a bit bigger than I thought but it can be convinced into an 8mm hole.
There is only 2.5mm thick for the grub screw so might braze another bit on and put some hard CuP on the pins to protect.

Aha! Thanks, that's more info than I ever had on it! Lathes.co.uk didn't turn up any saws but a few lathes made or sold by Tyzack as 'Zyto'. Seems they rebadged a lot of other makers' kit.
Also found a history of the Tyzack empire, such as it was...
