Hi,
It's been too cold to play out most days but I've managed to rotavate the meadow then rake it and broadcast new wildflower seeds so a big job already out of the way. I've sorted my new cyclone dust extractor out but not really enjoyed it in the workshop; I'm getting soft. Not wanting to watch sport on TV and not wanting to watch normal depressing TV I've bought a 1,000 piece jigsaw which I'm enjoying assembling in our spare bedroom in comfort and warmth. Initially I set the jigsaw up on a picnic table but quickly found a lot more space is needed so this morning I added our wallpapering table and enjoyed a session this morning with sun streaming into the room. After dinner I've removed leaves from our patio then gone over the front garden with the hoe before weeds get a hold; garden ready flower plants due to arrive in April; as long as I'm doing anything I'm happy.

It's years since I did a jigsaw and I'm finding it enjoyable. When it warms up a bit I'll be grafting again in the gardens and workshop.
It's nice to have plenty of space and to be comfortable. Now it's set up I can also play with my pyrography kit too.

I enjoy a Jigsaw, they seem to be selling a lot of them in the local newsagents. I always do one over christmas as its too cold for the shed and there is rarely anything worth bothering with on telly.

We aren't close. Probably seen her maybe 3 times in 15 years. 2 of them in passing in Morrisons

Not by me, but my workshop, my parts and my coffee.
A friend came by yesterday evening. This lock down has hit him hard. But things like this helps him.
This is how it arrived.
It was complete, all be it dirty.
So, it had to be tested.
It did fire up, very nicely, but being a blue flame it is had to capture.
Didn't clean up as well as we hoped, there is a hint of copper showing. Even the bench polishing grinder did not polish it out.
But as a post war unit it came up well enough.
But by then the beers were cold and Dave wanted to carry on.
Yes, Dave wanted a lamp.
One thing to consider when doing this, is the earth path.
This fitting has a tab that earths the metal fitting, but not the metal torch.
So a extra earth cable is routed and attached to the torch body.
The cables is held in place as with cable ties as the glue dries.
They have been cut off. Doing it this way does not wreck a serviceable torch, so if you want to use it as a torch you can.
£50 is in my pocket. Daves daughter brought it.

I had a play with the VFD on my S&B lathe. I wanted an emergency stop now I am using it more. I also fancied a pot for speed control

Had a sudden urge to weld today and I got these old, really rust U-beams that's been laying around for years. Decided to make a rocket stove to experiment with.
Still new to mig welding, but weaving produces nicer looking and flatter welds than stringers for me.
After a test firing I can say that the combustion was not as clean as I had hoped, started smoking occasionally which indicates not enough oxygen makes it to the flue gasses to manage complete combustion. The lid being closed did not help any either. I think I was to experiment with adding a louvered intake on the back to introduce fresh air right over the flames to see what that does, maybe add something to create some turbulence too.

Today (and yesterday) I made - a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Garage floor laid by someone with no clue. Quite a thick slab but laid with too much water and not enough cement. We had some material left over at work so I brought it home along with a floor scarifier and set aside this weekend for fixing the floor. Rightfully it should be completely removed and re-laid but that's never happening so this is making the best of a bad job.
Grinding the floor. You can see the rough patches where the powdery surface broke up. Some areas were very bad and had been patch-repaired before.
Grinding done yesterday and a good hoovering to pull out all the loose grit. After this the couple of really bad areas were repaired with Fosroc.
New self-levelling compound going down on top of PVA primer. The stuff (Ardex K301) self-levels but that doesn't mean that you pour it out and forget it - you have to trowel (or roll) it out flat then the trowel marks level themselves. I'm no expert floor layer but it's coming out very respectable.
All done, needs at least 48HRS before driving on it. Going to leave it a few weeks thne give it a couple of coats of light grey floor paint. The white marks are reflections of the striplights.
