Today I fitted more 'sensible' castors to my 'auxiliary' [] trolley - the small originals were making indentations in the costco foam tiles and became difficult to pull/move about when loaded. So, off with the old



and on with the new


Much easier now, and an indication of a lack of thought/forward planning initially...

Do you want an 8 inch dia inch thick round of Black Delrin plastic to make the blocks . It cuts well on a band saw or with a fine toothed hand saw, can be bored & turned to a remarkable finish . If so PM me your address & I'll send you one FOC .

True , I keep telling guys to plan for old age & incapacity and get everything on welded boarded frames fitted with quality bearing'd lockable 360 degree castors . I'd never be able to do half of what I can now I'm 80% disabled if everything hadn't been deeply thought about , planned and implemented .

It was a lot cheaper to do it 15 years ago as well

I very rarely need to use any spanners unless I’m locking the carriage or putting the travelling steady on, so spanner’s stay in the drawer. Don’t need more clutter around a lathe.

You got posh lathe with metric dials or CNC measuring then Brad ?

Today was jam making day, we bought about 15 kilos of strawberries at a good price (40€) and sorted them, cooked them (some, ~1/3rd was just crushed and sugared for an uncooked jam) and canned them. They will all be frozen.

Hopefully this will last us until next year, this goes in everything, in cakes, on pancakes, milkshakes, you name it. The ones in the square containers is the uncooked jam.

Tried the hot air gun trick?

Did this to Brother in Laws Transit and combined with a machine polish it looked very good.
I also cleaned out the interior - starting with a pitch fork and gradually coming down the grades.
SWMBO recovered the seats in some leftover materials.

He kept asking when we wanted to borrow it again - it also had a full fuel tank on return!

Today I made 20 port light toggles from 8mm dia 316 and some 16mm dia 316 bored out to 8mm and parted at 5mm thick on the lathe. Then welded them together.

Quick wire brush and they are ready for sending off to be fitted to the Waverly paddle steamer.

Next up I chopped up a couple of sheets of 5mm 5083 Aluminium and then tacked them together.

Fully welded and just waiting for the boatyard to open on Monday so I can get 3 tubes rolled.
It is a hopper to take the Mackerel from the Port and Starboard stripper boxes and then guide them into a fish box.

Concreting: just 4x 3.5bag mixes as i'm taking it easy.
Got halfway through and thought "I'm sweating buckets".
Turned out it was insistent drizzle. (As in, insisting i got wet ) Never even noticed!

Another potentially simple wee project that I didn't really need to make but managed to go successfully totally bonzai overkill on. Wanted to make a wee stand for the three sizes of TIG filler rod that I keep, so used up some scrap bits and went to work with the angle grinder first of all, as I normally do, and then once overkilled the wire brush as I did so much TIG welding on it that there was so much heat it into it that went brown all over - I'd have been happy with just some nice TIG welding rainbows but I didn't stop at a sensible tacking to keep the bits in place as I was having so much fun with the new machine.
