Just a thought . Why not use old scrapped car wheels possibly c/w hubs & tyres as the rollers so they are sealed bearing'd , fill them with water for more weight before you put them on the axle , Use the wheel bearings with spacers as part of the build & you'll only need to preload the while roller from one end plus you could tow it on tarmac perhaps . you'd be able to have a small gap between the wheels engineered in the roller build .

My understanding that the U or V shaped rollers concentrate the weight to break up clods and the grooves stop scouring washing out of the soil of newly power narrowed fields.
Most importantly, I have it and it is paid for.

Generally rubber rollers aren't the best for consolidation, better with shaped Cambridge rollers as they break clods and such.

They’ve got 15° slope, I done another with 30° slope and it was too extreme. . Just going in a drawer these lot, I was fed up searching for the right spanner when I need to do one bolt on the lathe.

Fitted one of these to the GS

It mated up with one of these... from an MGB

And ended up like this...

However, I'm not terribly happy with that, and I know there used to be an intake plate with the same flowed throat that allowed the filter centre line to be lower than the carb mouth. They were fitted to some Wolseleys and Rileys of the 1950s, so I'm on the hunt for one. Hen's teeth by now, but I just missed one on Australian ebay by a week or two, so they are out there.

It's been one of those weeks.
so time in the play pen, but with my neighbour on nights, power tools were not a nice choice.


Cardboard aided designe allowed a lump of pine to be saved from the wood pile.

Cut out with a French Bow Saw, hand filled and hand sanded.


6 coats of French polish, lots of wire wool.



A stand for this cooker.


I acquired this the other day, a cutting gauge. Minus the blade and the wedge.

The hole is square and tapered on the inside.




Bit of steel, hacksaws, files and coffee.



The blade was hand shaped and a double angle, single cutting edge ground on.



To make a small wedge, glue two bits wood together.
Shape one side and use the other to hold it, makes life simpler.



Two new parts ready to be fitted.



All done.

Drilling out a dowel pin on engine, rusted solid. Wouldnt be a problem but Honda chose to use soft pins which meant it chewed up badly from a light pull with mole grips. Easy to drill tho.
But I did need to sort my drills,cut the orgainsers a bit smaller as they annoy me.

Reground 3 sets in about an hour. Also started on these two

Grinder is so slow, the big one will take all week so gave up.

2 weeks ago I got this Optimus Vertical Twin Burner Blow torch.



But it didn't.

This was the best it got.



But, Base camp came to my Help, again.

They sent me my pump assembly back. After a full rebuild, plus some spares for another project.



So............





This doesn't show the noise or the heat this produced.
A fantastic bit of kit.

Now to find a use.

Today I replaced my plywood vice jaws with new ones made out of some spare hardwood:

Having the dog holes (with stainless steel fillers to keep sawdust out) in the jaws should give me some useful alternatives for clamping stuff.

I've been doing a lot of planing of wood lately. None of it has had any real purpose yet: I've just been practising my technique. I've mostly done it using a single stop and a bit of wood with a v cut into the end:

That works really well, but there have been a few times when I've wanted something a bit firmer. I can't fit a tail vice to my bench as the handle would get in the way of the roller door (I guess I could make it with a removable handle, but I can't be bothered with that). Hopefully the extra dog holes in the vice jaw will give me some alternative clamping methods and will tide me over until I get more workshop space.

For short stock, I can clamp it like this:

For wide stock (> 178 mm), I can use a dog on the end and clamp it side on:

For narrower stuff, I have to use a clamp of some sort as the end stop, but that's quite easy:

For really narrow stuff (< 76 mm) I'll need some sort of spacer to fill in the gap, but that shouldn't be too hard.

I need to make some wooden square things with round holes in to give a softer clamp "jaw" than the stainless steel dogs, but that hasn't made it to the top of the list yet.
