A bit longer would be good too, unless you're at the capacity of your lathe? The further away from the heat, the better, but you'd know that anyway.....![]()

Goes nicely with the coal scuttle.
How are you going to paint it for purpose? Or is it decorative?
It was at the maximum for putting a taper on the shaft, without faffing about with the tailstock. It is made out of aluminium, and it is to sit at the side of an electric, pretendy stove. The whole thing is purely aesthetic, and an excuse to get some ‘lathe time’ in. Finish, well it might just be good old black paint. I will make a little stand for the brush,
shovel, and poker.
