Try a 50/50 mix of ATF & acetone or cellulose thinners, it has freed up stuff for me that wouldn't even budge with heat! Loads of evidence online of its effectiveness too.

I have some I mixed in a jar - waiting to get a suitable 'squirty' oil can, the insides of which won't melt with the presence of the acetone.
An old one with the metal pump is likely to fare best so I'm keeping an eye on the'Bay but some seen to be fetching high prices...

Somebody on here recommended a squirty bottle with solvent proof container and pump.
Via ebay and quite cheap, but I don't recall who or what it was. They are available.

I get the cheap ones from Pets At Home, "The Bird House" brand "shower spray" bottles, a couple of quid and have resisted acetone for a year so far - a spray though, rather than a squirt. Fairly sturdy, too, even for a Clum like me.

Sounds mad, but I've had results from the 'black doctor' before. Personally would drink it though.

Mix 50% diesel, 30% old engine oil and 20% paraffin.
Pour into the bores and wait.

If you can warm the mixture up, even better.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried straight diesel before and seem to remember it working.
I’ve got 5 pistons to unstick so I think I might to a little experimenting with each method.

What's the chance the landlord notices.

Clean the edges up screw a few blocks around the edges, screw in a hols shaped bit of plasterboard, drywall filler, and a couple of coats fo paint.
Will be cheaper than the landlord's quote or your % of the deposit.

As above ^^^^ screw a couple of batons behind the hole and replace the board. It is the usual way of hiding access holes when rodding cables over metal frame ceilings though you do tend to replace the board with the bit you cut out as it is already skimmed and painted the right colour.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Shame it wasn't a couple of days ago, we had half a sheet of plasterboard in the hall leftover from new door frames being fitted but the joiners came back to clear up all the stuff they'd left. Where can I get a square foot of plasterboard then.

Plaster board is cheap, but shame to buy a whole sheet when you just need a square foot.

Keep an eye out for builders doing work locally and go on the scrounge.

Id post you a as much as you'd need but the postage would probably be the same as the cost of a whole sheet.

Keep your eye on skips a square foot should be sitting around in one.

Has to be dry plasterboard, or it swells obviously.

I saw some bloke yesterday buying cut to measure sheets from b&q equivalent over here. He probably paid a fair price, imagine the wastage, but full sheets of Plaster board are not that easy to transport unless you've got a bit van or trailer.

It should be fine, then. I do seem to have a couple scampering about the house somewhere. Makes a change from mice the ‘lodger’ brings in.

I think I was concentrating so hard on the majik of making tapers, I forgot to double check the thickness of the shaft.

A bit longer would be good too, unless you're at the capacity of your lathe? The further away from the heat, the better, but you'd know that anyway.....

I did some plumbing in the eaves today. Soil, waste, hot and cold sink and toilet cistern supplies and air admittance valve. It was tight in there working and not much room for the pipework either!!!
Bloody knackered but a big job done!
