Made some progress on the extension, just ran out of light but rubber is ontop so it will keep dry.

Should only need 2 1/2 to finish it sadly wont be until the weekend.

Once rubber is on I'll do the rough fascia and the front box gutter
on target to have sitting room completed for Christmas bed room can wait



I don't know where my supplier gets thier osb3 some is 590 some is 600 and mr lemon always forgets.
When i dont forget roof is easier.

Had a productive weekend, despite the weather varying from bright sun to seriously dreich.

Got the log store made, ready for the new log burner being installed on Tuesday. Before and after:







Needs sealing along the edges, some flagstones in front of it, a bulkhead light inside, and the gutter from the sun room extending, but pleased with how it turned out. About 75 cubic feet of storage, more than enough for a couple of ton bags of logs which will easily see us through the winter.

Fastened the canoe down in the interests of marital harmony:



And finally got some paint on a new "projecting load" marker board for the truck:


Hopefully get it finished next week with the addition of a couple of red lights, reflectors, and hi-viz flashers.

Not metal, that funny brown stuff that splits - for the boy, to take his 12 (yes, really) game consoles and a pair of big flat screens...

it's now 6" narrower than it started after taking the top and sides back off, cutting the top and shelves down, putting it all back together. He measured 4 times before we made it but it wouldn't make the turn at the bottom of the stairs...

He can do the sanding and painting, not my favourite job!

Felt like performing the surgery on him... before, had to take 3" off each end! Off the Thing, not the boy!
Oddly, it actually looks more "balanced" with the outer cubby holes narrower, must be a style thing...

Not so much stuff I have made today, but stuff I made this weekend (didn't get near a computer all weekend).

Added a bit of bent plate and a small bit of angle with a hole in it onto the front of my welding trolley:

and here it is (somewhat out-of-focus) all filled up with the foot pedal in its new home and a flow gauge mounted in the angle so I don't have to walk round the corner to where the gas bottle lives to see what the argon flow is doing:

Also made some more progress on the replacement base for my bandsaw.

I know, he thought, I've been welding in odd bits of spare time for several months now. I must have spent whole HOURS welding. Why don't I make the new bandsaw base follow the original shape of the original base so it tapers out at the bottom. That'll make it more stable and what POSSIBLE problems could I have clamping something where none of the angles are 90°? While I'm at it, I'll weld on a bit of 0.8 mm plate to the 3 mm thick box section. That sounds easy too.

Urgh.

The plate on the side (and the extension up the top) are there to catch the swarf coming from where the bandsaw cuts: I'll add some shelves in due course and hopefully they'll stay relatively clean.

Here it is (before the side plate was fitted) with the base of the bandsaw on top to show (sort of) where the swarf-catching-protrusion goes:

I also did a lot more dismantling of the bandsaw:

If you look carefully (just to the left of the base piece), you can see the broken switch housing (it was like that when I bought it 8 years ago and has been held together by tape ever since) and the broken blade guide (my cock-up, I'll probably try to bend a new one of those).

The motor is in pieces in the picture as the bearings were long past it. When I bought the bandsaw, it made a horrendous noise as it ran, but that was down to the fan cover on the motor being mashed to the point that the fan was hitting the cover. I beat it back into shape and it started making an awful noise instead of a horrendous one, so I lived with it for 8 years!

I've now replaced the bearings in the motor and it sounds lovely and quiet!

Since that photo, I've also done more dismantling of the top part of the bandsaw and the only remaining thing to take apart is removal of the worm shaft. I've started a new thread about that as I need some advice...

The further I've got with this "make a new base for a bandsaw" project, the more I've decided I'm going to do a more thorough job of replacing all the "perishables" (bearings etc) and giving it a new paint job. Might as well do a proper job while I'm at it.

Most of a gate. Now I need to work out how I'm going to do the hinges. For reasons of awkwardness the location of the hinge mounting point is ~200mm away from the edge of the gate.

Today’s task has been to make a bed stop for the lathe, got a far as marking the hole for the stop pin but found that ware the bolt should be in the saddle for it to make contact has been snapped off

So looks like tomorrow’s task is to try an extract the snapped bold before finishing the bed stop.

The ironic thing is I buy a new lathe and cannot get away from the milling machine, because I’m making stuff for the thing

Holes? As in through the diagonal bars? In that case no. While there are holes in it for ventilation purposes they were drilled straight through. The 20mm box for the vertical bars is cut at each intersection.

Lots of threading (two internal and two external M12 threads and an M40×1.5 thread) and a very precise 8° taper for the ER32 collet block. The rest was trivial. I really enjoy single-point turning threads, especially now I figured out how much more fun it is when you have an upside down tool and the lathe running backwards (my lathe chuck isn't screw-mounted so I can do this).

I then remembered to put a hex on the bottom of the ER32 collet block and made this ER slide hammer:

and used it to get the worm shaft out of my bandsaw .

What a great idea, adding the gripping power of a collet to a slide hammer, I like it.

Today I finally made a little trolley to move my tanks more easily and stabilise them during transport.
Was about to make two of them but one is enough to make it rock steady while laying down.

After much hassle with dead hardware and following the black Friday sales I now have a pc again . Leak testing and installation of windows awaits.
