This wood and brass bubble stick was dirty, but it was still reading true.

Pumice powder, cut up jeans followed by bee's wax.



I knew this worked, I did a steam and a safety check. May be a toy, but it can still hurt, if it goes wrong.

A strip down, clean and a decent de-scale.

Some oversized washers for an emergency fix on the car! The garage has managed to lose 7/8 of the plastic clips that hold on the oil filter cover, so it was hanging off. It’s a Sunday and I needed to drive the car. Total bodge fix, but it works! I’ll buy proper clips later.

So, a nice coffee and no power tools in the play pen.

This was in a bundle of other bits, so I thought why not.



Wire wool, pumice powder and linseed oil soon had it cleaned up.

Buck and Hickman WD stamped and issued to the Navy. According to the stamps on the tang.

The teeth slots had a few minor burrs, but a file soon had them away.



So how do you fit a flat tang into a handle with out splitting it?
You could cut a slot and glue, but that's a modern way.
Or you could do it the old fashioned way.
Cut a slot, fill it with rock sulphur, heat the tang and press in.

It works.
But it does stink.
Fresh air at car boot called.
