Well, machine and enclosure all finished. Now all I need to do is learn how to use it. Ask me how I am getting on. In about three years..............
For those that are interested I stuck the polycarb sheet on the doors with 3M acrylic VHB tape. This stuff STICKS. I was very surprised the first time I used it, once it gets a grip it just does not let go. The last lot I had to cut apart.
Got an urgent request to make up a short mast, MCA have decided a boat needs to have fishing lights and the skipper came in at 3pm asking if I could make up a mast so he would get the pass so an hour later after some cutting and welding I had the mast made up from the left overs of my gates
Decided to try and make the hinge joint on the tool setter arm watertight. When I got it the bearings were knackered as coolant and gunge had got in, I replaced the bearings but decided to drill some drain holes and also fit an O Ring.First job was to mill a groove for the ring.
I am pleased with it. The sides are 6mm Polycarb sheet but they can slide up so I could put long items in to work on. The doors are 3mm polycarb sheet and it bent really easily on the folder. Plenty of spring in it so a good couple of goes until I was happy then stuck to the doors with 3M VHB tape. Bit of a fiddly job but I am very pleased with it. I will get a couple of coats of Meguires (sp) plastic polish on before I use it in anger as I would like to keep the finish. We shall see. Fortunately the doors are easily removable if I need to cut it off for replacement.
^^^ Here in OZ when someone mentions 'pulling a few cones' they do not mean sheet metal ones. Had to put up with a few boys in my fishing days, after they had finished with a few cones. Now the only cones that I have to put up with are along the lines of what you do @Hitch. Life is now much better
@Hood good evening. You make me feel that I am a bit slack in producing things, so some of yesterdays. Was asked to do some steel brackets in an emergency, as they had been forgotten about and can we have them today. Was sent a pdf of what they wanted and they only wanted 4 each of three small items that also had to be bent. Oh forgot can we have them painted and what about the preparation. WEll I mentioned that I can put them into the blast cabinet, blast them, cold gal and even some epoxy prima on top. Let me know ASAP so we can start so you can have them this afternoon. So waited, nothing. Had a boat to get off the slip I had replaced the starboard side shaft in yesterday. Take it for a test run to see if all is good and put it back on it's mooring. Well trying to moor it side on against 25 to 30knots of NE wind, well that was an adventure to say the least. Returned to the workshop in time of lunch and get a breather after the 'mooring', check the emails and still nothing re drawings. Rang up it these drawings will be coming and 'OH' don't you have them yet and can you make them from 6mm alli and can we have some more. So twelve pieces turned into 28 and here is the result.
All bits ready as requested 4.30pm on Friday afternoon, rang to tell them to collect, reply well we will send someone to collect Monday. Maybe I'm trying to please too much.
Well after the calm Friday I slept 10hours straight. Makes me wonder why we do this at times
Yes, get that quite often, urgent, need right away, tell them it is done and they pick up a week later. The best one was a guy needed some RHS stainless angled at ends and capped and then 200 holes bored in a specific pattern on one side and a 50mm hole on the other. Some kind of filter/strainer. He needed them urgently, that was 6 months ago and he still hasn't picked them up, he got billed for them and paid (a premium) for them so I am not caring too much, they are now in the scrap
Today I made my better half happy and my dog unhappy.
The dog likes to run round the back and be let in the back door when I go home, now he won't be able to Although I reckon within a few days he will have worked out that if he pushes against the gate it will open and he can get through.
I was hoping to just get the stainless gates blasted but the guy at the coating place reckoned they wouldn't end up very even so I decided just to get them powder coated instead.
Ok so front gate, not sure if Max is liking it or saying it looks terrible.
And from the outside.
The side gate from the outside, light wasn't the best as there is a Rowan in the way so pic is not great. Max is definitely not liking the gate in this picture
And finally looking from the back out to the front.
