Speaking of kitchens, ours isn't finished yet, but after much wrangling today the new dishwasher is plumbed in, the washing machine is plumbed in and the new sink and tap are plumbed in. That end is pretty much finished minus the tiling.

Not too sure to be honest. I guess it would reduce distortion to an extent as you should have roughly the same heat input on both sides but you’re only reinforcing and chilling one side so you could still get distortion.
The main benefit I see is it saves purging the part which may be otherwise difficulty to do.

Hastily thrown together yesterday for my mate's 88th birthday on Tues. 
I had the idea but thought I was going to be away, so it got 'shelved'. Then, I wasn't going away any more so a bit of a rush job to get it made and posted.

Decided that the Veroboard er.. board in my VFD control box for the lathe offended my engineering sensibilities, still waiting on a few parts from RS for its replacement...
Drawn up in Eagle, board from China in 3 days and very nicely made!
Which will be going into this...
(E.T.'s Little Brother, still needs decent labels or a visit to an engravers - I know which control's what though!)

Gives me 3 selectable fixed speed "multipliers" (VFD frequencies), variable speed (from 1/10th up to 1.6x marked spindle speeds), tacho, motor current meter, fine setting of max and min for the cross-slide remote control of spindle speed and a jog mode using a Tig torch switch on the fwd/stop/reverse lever. As did the Veroboard, but this is much prettier for something nobody will see

Pretty much spot on Brad...
Oneside adding the rod, one following on the back just fusing the remainder together.
It helps to reduce the distortion a bit, it also ensures that both sides are sealed, so the same as a full penetration weld. Being stainless, youd need to purge the back otherwise.
If you do one side, then the other, there's a good chance you could end up with a bit of a mess.
Having both sides sealed is quite important for hygiene purposes on most of the stuff I do. Plus the strength is needed sometimes where welds are polished out.

Good to know Hitch, thanks for explaining that.
That’s what we need more of on this forum, guys doing stuff outside of the norm and explaining the reasons behind it.
Anyone can stick a photo up but it isn’t easy to interpret the reasons behind it.

I got this hammer the other day. The shaft was shot.
So shaft was cut off and drilled out, then it was attacked with a flap disc.
A blank of hickory was turned down. I know I have said in the past how it is cheaper to buy new, than make one.
But my normal supplier did not have any in stock.
Fitted, oiled and waxed.
10/14 varitooth is what tuff saws recommended to me for cutting box, tube & angle. 6/10 is more for thicker or solid materials, if you use it on thinner stuff the teeth will break. You work on the principal of always having at least 3 teeth in contact with the metal.

Edging trimmed back and butted?
Square edged worktops make it easier.
Still prefer a Mason's on them though.

Looking further across the joint I can see it now but at the edge it's near invisible.
Didn't fancy doing them yourself then.
Easy enough if the walls are good. When you have to work out of true it gets trickier.
