He called it silage and it was steaming from memory, covered it tarps and old tyres.

If it was steaming and hot the air had not been kept out of it properly and instead of Pickering it's self it was composting and rotting there would be some better stuff further in to the heap were the air had not got to but there would be a lot of wast on the outsides

A nice little sheet metal bench job sent out today, 8 off air vents to fit in server racks, I think the current weather may have prompted this job,
Completely hand made, including filing the slots and all the cutting, no laser work here just old fashioned metalwork, 1.2mm mild steel top and back, the bit with the slots filed in is 1.5mm

Assembled using tig, and a few mig sparks on the inside where I couldn't reach with the tig torch

Then off to the powder coaters for a transformation.

The customer was very pleased, I made these based on his "prototype" and a fag packet sketch, not much difference really.

Bought myself a welding helmet (been using hubby’s old one up to now), and decided I needed to upgrade from the usual plastic bag cover.

The bag was quickly put together, and is more of a design prototype for the next one. I used black canvas, with a soft blue lining, and a carry/shoulder strap (ignore french chalk marks).

Once I work out what I need to change, I’ll make a proper one, and probibly stick some sort of embroidered motif on it.

Built a small trolley for the genset, as trying to move it without wheels was wrecking the bottom frame tubes. It's just that side of too heavy and awkward to lift on yir tod, and a sack truck just ejects it as soon as you try to pull it back. The trolley means I can store it out of the way and easily move it to the doorway when I need to run it.

Still needs properly bolted down, but it'll do for now.

The dog was astounded and didn't know what this unearthly creature was...

Stuff I've finished today...

Over the weekend I made some holes in a bit of 3mm stainless steel.

A good dose of Rocol helped the not exactly new Bosch hole saw do it's thing, it would have been nice if the Meddings had a gear box, 500RPM is a little too fast.

It will still be usable, most of the deposits are burnt wood which was protecting the drill's table.

The off cuts from the holes Turned up on an arbor made from an old scaffolding nut and bolt held in the three jaw chuck. I have no idea what grade stainless it is but it turned remarkable easily with a DCMT carbide tip, the 1MM relief was taken at one pass with a CCMT in a boring bar.

All in all much easier than I thought it would have been, the topsides were polished with some 320 paper and Autosolve'd.

Oh yer they are nothing much, they just have to replace the crappy plastic pipe trims on my shower room radiator.

Nicely ott Keith, I keep all my holesaw slugs for washers and spacers. The 48mm holes I did in 10mm plate on the lathe cut really nice around 50-60rpm with a splash of coolant. I’ve been keeping a selection of stainless and brass punchings of various sizes from work, quite often I punch a pilot hole before going to size to make a tray of free washers.

Nice work! I believe that I'm correct in saying that the expression '"to get the hang of" something derives from fitting axe head and handle together such that it 'hangs' correctly.

Thanks though this is only the 2nd axe I have made a new shaft for. My grandfather on my fathers side he knew the ins and outs of stuff like this, though I was never remotely interested in it when he was alive. I remember my dad saying something about him charring the axe handle and it was a part of his process, no idea really, maybe he meant he used char on the inside of the shaft to mark where it rubbed. I used spray paint on the inside.

In my spare time over the last couple of day I have made these on the mill and laith two handbrake cable adjusters / spacers and a die holder to fit in the standard holder to take 38 mm dies the second pic being one of it fitted on the cable they may need shortening a little but I can do that at fitting by reducing the thread length pic 3
