Made, no modified this DRO so it would work with the new scale which was of a different pitch and it measured everything twice as much as it had traveled. Heidenhain support provided the procedure info, pretty good tech support since the DRO is from 1979.
Installed, tested and it works! Example, went to 3mm on the DRO and verified against dial indicator I had also zeroed, both show 3mm.
Don't look at the small dial for this, I both preloaded and zeroed the dial indicator at an arbitrary point so what I was really looking for was that the needle landed on 0.
Finally I have a working DRO for both X and Y on my mill. Someday I will get an XYZ DRO and move this one to the lathe.

If you do put it on a lathe, you may have to cut the added wire or you'll be taking 6mm off the diameter instead of 3mm

So today I thought I would see how it went with the stick welder, it has been a long time since I stick welded 1.5mm stainless so was thinking it may have been a bad idea but no, it went well and I had all 5 pipes stuck in place in the time it would have taken me to do one side of one with the tig

This is not the the scale for the cross slide but both scales now measures the true physical movement so it would work in radius mode. Which I think is fine for the dro, just need to be cognizant of that.

Started on upgrading security and tidying my network kit.
Before, my office network.
Now with a new internal router separate from the VDSL ISP router to create internal wired and WLAN networks and external guest WLAN and IoT networks.
Still a bit more to do, I have to do a similar job under the stairs where all the house network kit resides. Then I shall make off all the cables to length, blue for networks, red for temperature sensors for the heating controls.

Made a simple jig for "planing" and thicknessing timber by running the router over the whole surface (with shims underneath when doing the first side if required). Made it out of a length of 40 × 40 × 4 mm aluminium extrusion I had lying around, along with some UHMW tape. It currently runs on some t-slot extrusion that came out of a skip a while ago but I haven't got enough left for two good length runners (I had to borrow the long length from my welding arm support).
I might actually have to buy some material to finish it off
I did a quick proof-of-concept test with a bit of walnut that was very much not flat and it worked very well. It leaves light track marks in the surface of the wood, but a few seconds with a random orbital sander (or, I imagine a plane, which would probably leave a nicer finish) gets rid of them.

I got this small cobbler last the other day.
It look good, bit rusting and a half decent paint job.
A quick and easy tidy up.
But stripping the paint and the rust off. A horn fell off.
The paint job was hiding a Chemical repair.
So I cut the ends square. using some 4mm nails I pined the repair and brazed it back together. I lost 5mm of height. This image shows the area of repair.
Clear coat reacted on a horn, so had to clean it all off and re do it.
Finished.
It look good, bit rusting and a half decent paint job.

tanking system also being used because its within a property a channel needs to be dug around the walls and filled with a french drain and into a pumped tub with exit via another pipe connected to the pump
this can also be used on concrete block sheds as long as you create a channel to exit the water from the shed

Bottom two rows are blind holes, top two rows are through holes (all on a 25 mm spaced grid).
Here it is in use:

Mounted with a couple of brackets cut at the right angle, plus an offcut of thin plywood to stop the longer bits without collars falling through the blind holes:
I haven't decided whether to print a label to identify which bit goes where or just write on the plywood in pen.
