Which you'll not be able to get until the regs are restored to 'normal'. But not having an MOT to be deferred, can you drive it atm? I doubt it.... That'll be really galling for after all that time without it.

I may have a local garage willing to do it. I certainly can't drive it without one, as deferment required a current MOT. It's not impossible to get right now, just harder than usual.

Nice welding, but what was the direction of travel?
It looks to me like that hook assembly is on the tilt.
If you welded even slightly downhill you can have some issues.

Obviously it is electrode and amperage dependant, but you can suffer from slag entrapment or porosity, particularly with 7018s.
I had to redo about 3m of welding, three pass, grind all the old weld out 40ft above the Thames. All on the ropes.

Yeah. The middle cable is the limiting factor but it'll take about 20kg in that configuration. It wobbles a little bit though when touched - so it would be fine for a lamp or something, not so good for drinks. It can be picked up and held sideways without collapsing.

Edit to add: the limiting factor is actually the crimp on the cable loop, not the cable itself, so easily improved..

welded on the flat there movable clamp bars iv done a few in the past already and not had any issues
there not under any real pressure just used a lot so the welding is overkill for what they are

Not exactly, shortening the cental cable would raise the top, therefore tightening the outer cables and increasing stiffness, so it would work but it's easier to tension the outer cables after setting the middle cable. The central cable determines the height of the table top as it's effectively hanging on the central cable. Increasing the tension in the outer cables increases the stiffness of the structure (and the level of the top)
