Green so it doesn't burn too fast, but the idea is that the carbon in the end bit that gets hottest gobbles up the oxygen in the dross. Can accomplish the same with a cover flux but this can be as simple as crushed charcoal.

Salicylic acid
Is the term I was looking for.
it helps to make the dross form and allow any gas to raise and allow a smooth pour.
I used a willow stick, as I ahd some, getting Salicylic acid at the time was a pain.

I tried, it didn't work.I wonder if you chucked a couple of disprin‘s in the crucible if that would work….
Think they contain that acid,but may be wrong ..
In the loft I have the paper work on how much is needed.
But my willow stick worked and was cheep.

Finished off the slab yolks today, countersunk, bored and tapped for the clamping screws and then cut the slot in the bandsaw. Luckily I had the foresight to design the slot at 60 degrees to the base which made setting up in both the mill and bandsaw easy with a 90/60/30 set square (I hate I have to say that as it is obviously a triangle and not a square 
)
Also knocked up a set of creepers from an old 2" prop shaft and some 16mm round bar.

Made a start on welding up the tailboard. Even with everything clamped up and shifting from one side to another I have put a 2.5 mm bow centre outwards and its really annoying me.

Better to be annoyed by it, than try rectifying it & screwing it up completely. That attempt at a final tweak is usually the "b0llocks" moment.
