One thing you could do for future times if you can get hold of a wet & dry vacuum cleaner . Is to make an intermediate tank that is half filled with water ( 40 litre screw top strong tubs with hard plastic lids are good Swimming pools chemical tubs are brilliant for this ) .I "fixed" Henry the vacuum cleaner yesterday after he conked out overheated as I'd removed his bag and used him on a wall chaser, I filled him up with fine dust and only noticed when I couldn't see the wall anymore
I also ported his intake system after I noticed the holes in the top cover were full of plastic flash.
I used a 7.5mm drill bit but reckon I can go further if I need to.
Holes on the left are the 'tuned' ones

Fit in the top the suction hose from the chaser , so it is a few inches below the water level . Then fit the suction hose well above the water line and stuff a scotch bright pad in this tube in the lid to make a bit of an anti splash filter .... adding a wire through the pipe work to secure the pad . Empty when the water looks solid with sand /dust etc,
I used solvent plastic fittings through thelid so I could dismantle it for easier handling and pond water pipe with a smooth internal bore. The hoses were long enough for the cleaner to be outside and allowed me to chase out a three bed bungalow 15x30 sq m for 42 double switched sockets and all the other stuff associated with a total rewire .
Once done I sold it (for £45 at a boot sale in 2008 including the £19.00 re Aldi dual blade chaser
