Stuff you have fixed today

Not so much what i fixed but doing something to prevent fixing...This happened on my way back from a @Cato visit yesterday so i treated the old girl to a new filter and oil today...2005 1.9 Renault trafic on the same engine, remap,cat delete and an upgraded turbo with better shaft seals running at 20psi. oil/filter changed every 2000 miles since i bought her almost 8 years ago with 130,000. who says these motors are sh i te dont know there oinions.

Not sure if this should be in the fixed or broken thead, but today I removes a few broken fixings on my Eagle Grinder and broke a few more.

The grinder came with the wet cooling option but a few of the cap head screws that fixed the splash guard to the table had been broken off flush.

Easy enough, washer then nut welded on and they all came out.

I'm following @Pete. lead on his Eagle rebuild thread https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/eagle-mk3-surface-grinder-rebuild.96469/post-1448927 and looking to paint the bits before I attempt to sort the ways.
I need to sort the spindle so I took the head off and cleaned the worst of the crud from the inside.

While I was at it I ground off the flash down the inside of the casting.

I intend to repaint the bits and wanted to blast all the old paint and filler off so the name plate really needed to come off.

It's held on with the old style threaded drive pins.

These didn't want to come out so I tig welded a blob to give me some purchase so I could lever them out, but I only succeeded in breaking the heads off all four.

After blasting, I had another go.
I welded 4mm washers over the remainder, then welded some 6mm threadbar ground to a point so I could attach a small slide hammer.

This did the trick and got them all out. One took a couple of goes but all eventually succumbed.

Anybody have a source for drive pins (if that's what they are called?)

They were good engines, shame Renault cheaped out and wouldn't put a cover over the injectors like the cars had, would have saved lots of seized injectors!

Easy fix by taking the scuttle trim off that holds the wiper motor and re-fixing with CT1 to stop water dripping on to motor...I think the worst design is the starter right at the back tucked up under the head, terrible job to replace unlike the MR9 2.0 engine with it on the front.

Mot time for the ev unswapped rx8 thursday evening

Failed on a caliper. No biggie and not totally unsurprising.

well kinda.

so it failed on excessive bind nearside front. fair enough, i couldn't turn the wheel when it was on the MOT ramp.

trouble is, i just changed the slide pins and it was free as when i tested it.

and when i jacked it up yesterday to take the calipers off it was totally free again. it hates me

this is not a unknown failure mode. only binds when hot. 2 possible causes, the caliper being the obvious one, the brake hose being the other. considering how cheap they are, a rebuild kit for the calipers (both front) and 2 brake flexis isnt bank breaking, so ill do that. a order to biggred therefore went in yesterday and parts in motion for the brake hoses.

with the calipers off i decided it was just as well to make them look a bit nicer...

out came the shot blaster.

just a bit of heat proof silver and a set of seals and it'll be good to go.
