Had this USA made linisher for 22 years,every so often the drive shaft bearings loosen or break up,always threatened to fit an outboard bearing,so a quiet period in workload allowed it,made a new shaft aswell.

Take a 1942 Vapalux 300, ex RAF(Crab stores)

Spend some time and a bit of beer tokens.

A bodge repair on the glass to see if we can get it going.

The old leather washer was killed by the use of mineral oil.

A new mantle. new seals and fresh fuel and we proved it was worth spending time.

Rattle can paint, as close to the original as possible, the paint I got it was wrong and badly applied.

Part was through the rebuild.

A bit of dirt caused the fuel to leak from the vaporizer to leak in the warming up stage.
This was removed and the seal checked.

Correct pre-warming.

All good to go.

sunday morning was spent attaching the replacement side panels.

much better. just have to fill over the countersunk bolts and prime. paint can wait til i paint the entire lorry. again.

turns out raptor is perfect for the rubbing strips. less so for the body.

sunday afternoon was much more enjoyable...

a ride in a convertible to the beach and lots of beers in the beach bar

lots of filler work, another coat of primer and some raptor later....

and the final piece of aluminium fitted.

For over 2 years, this Aladdin T15 heater did sterling service as a Polly Tunnel/green house heater.
But as you can see it has suffered.

What has failed is a poor repair...


I had the use of a battery induction heater, so Ihad a go.

First go with the heater showed me that better cleaning up was needed. This was to give issues in the next stage.

The patch is fixed well, 100% sealing. a pressure test to 5psi showed that.
But boy it is ugly.

Holding fuel, the wick needs trimming, but it is good.




Lesson learn't.
Better cleaning up.
Use thinner brass, not copper.


The induction heater was good, but a gas flame would of been better.

But it is now going back to being a green house heater.

Theses are a nice bit of kit. Draper is just one name you will find on them.

A quick test showed the internal 12v 17ah batter was dead.


So, I liberated one from work.

This is an 18ah version.

I guess this sis why it was junked.


So, out with an old friend.

Now fully working.

Trying to fix...
Spent yesterday replacing some soft vertical rafters on the outbuilding roof, only to find that the outer two for the overhang & weather board... were hiding rotted purlin ends where the run through the wall.
So I've got to try & faff about now splicing in some new purlin ends before I can replace the rafters, slap some Creosote over the lot, & try to get some membrane tacked on.
It's due to rain this afternoon as well.

Idiot question.... does it matter which way up breathable membrane goes?

Took my recently aquired and now working Acrows up to the folks place after work, and propped the A Frame with the rotted foot on it (& boy is it rotten). I reckon I'll be cutting back around 1- 2' looking to find sound timber to try to splice/splint to.
The rafters and battens on the side Storm Darragh didn't have a go at is in a sorry state peering at it while next to the knacked A-Frame foot - as bad, maybe worse than the side I've stripped. Ho hum.

what are you using to treat the woodworm/rest of the wood?

I've used some myself, looks like it worked well - but I was lucky, stripped out the infected stuff and the rest looked ok, was more treating as a precaution than anything else

Dunno, they were nicking XR2s and 3s, stripping them, and shell out the back, plod caught them with door open and shells push half out. Twas a copper told me about it, after my RG500 was nicked.
