I've been after a half-decent Magnifying Lamp for a bit - ideally a glass lens for better optics & less likely to scratch than acrylic.
I found one that was being sold as the connecting section between the heavy base & the arm was missing, & bought it.
It arrived today, so after work I rummaged about for some bits to knock up a way to join the different size base, to the flexi-section on the head.
It's not pretty, but it's functional, & I reckon the magnifier will come in very handy.
The light is good, the head size & lens give a good field of view & depth of field, so it'll be easy to focus & work comfortably.

I modified a new set of Barkbuster hand guards for the bike I recently acquired. They fit ok, but not entirely to my liking, as when the handlebars are turned to contact the fork stops, the inboard ends of the handguards are almost touching the digital speedo. So, I disconnected the clamps and moved them as far as was feasible up the bars away from it and drilled new holes in the aluminium arms; cut off the excess, and contoured the ends on my die filer. Much better clearance now, so less of a chance of damage in the unlikely event of the bike falling over.

Its an Opus 120 Die filer, which I acquire a few years ago. Fortunately it came with a complete set of accessories and a selection roughing & finishing files. Here's a photo.

Yesterday I got on off my 500A Tig machines back to life.
One silly stupid relay….
Cost me about 3h to find the fault.
Nasty French machines with Fronius compatible frontend.

I think i might have a new one in a box of "useful one day" spares, when it stops heatwaving down I will have a look

It's a good interesting indoors exercise to repair all sorts of rotary switches , you might learn easy ways of repairing such things , get a slack handful from a washing machine repair shop to play with ?
Sleeve or number tag each wire , mark each segment so it can be exactly reassembled easily .

Now digital camera's are here you can afford to take zillions of pictures of links inside the rotator & note from which side is is from
I used to strip & repair all manner of rotary switches with up to six elements & ten or more wired contact points on each element to play with .

I have a nine inch x 6 mag illuminated ring magnifier on angle poise linkage over my lathe chuck area where most turning tales place
Lovely bit of kit ,till one day "Clang " which shattered the ring light safety glass cover and put a chip in the lens . It still woks but is a little more open than it was . Next one will be a 12 volt led flood light put on the angle poise linkage or some of these roughy toughy 4x4 over head led Bar lights right across the lathe bed & sod the angle poise & wear my head band magnifier so I will always see what is to the front of me . .

This one has 2 led units either side of the glass under diffuser type covers.
Seems to give a good amount of illumination without it looking likely to cause reflections.
Think the magnification is 3 Diopter for the main lens - not a huge amount - but keeps a depth of field where you've a bit of room under it, & you don't need to be right on top of whatever you're looking at.
If I'd bought it complete with its Stand/Mount intact, these things are up just shy of £150, which I would have baulked at for sure!
Also - I don't have a Lathe - so hopefully won't be firing high speed metal chips at it

Think I'd need a lottery win or to retire before I could get a lathe (& space to site one)..... unless I wanted a big cast iron Ornament - cos while they fascinate me, I haven't got a scooby how to use one, or the time (& I'd need lots) to learn.

But yeah - it would be nice

What do you do on a summers day when its heatwaving down with rain, sort your draws of course! Picked these up over a year ago and space constraints meant the draws just got poked in anywhere, so pull all 210 draws out and replace them in part number order which should make it easier to find the drawings I need, still got a hundred or so draws with no cabinets so not sure what to do about them yet!

I never adjusted or repaired Strowger, but done jumpering in many, also TXE’s (electronic exchanges) as well. All gone now.

I broke my tail light removing it, developed cracks. Been trying to fix it, though I found a cheap spare so that's on it's way.

Making a groove in the cracks to fill with epoxy glue

Epoxy glue having dried and now in the sun for a while to cure faster. Waiting so I can start sanding.

And sanded to 800 grit

Post clear coating, still not cured:

The cracks are not gone, but perhaps less noticable, or not. It won't leak however through the cracks, which is important.

Might have worked better without making the grooves and just going straigh to sanding.
