I’ve seen 40 year old Golfs with less rust on the suspension, do you live near the sea?

That's quite typical of golf's of that age unfortunately, as is the dust shield falling off

Spent most of its days in Dunfermline so not too close to the sea, but we do have salt on the roads up here for at least 6 months of the year. My A3, TT and XK8 all went the same, however my 40 year old 155000 mile 450SL was in much better shape when I stripped and restored it.

A small sucess. Cutting sheets of old plate glass.

It is about 3mm thick. It was recused from a old green house. The green house was built in the late 1940's. The owner told me it was built from older units.

Yes I know I missed the end of the beading with the french polish.

One issue showed up when the new top glass was fitted. It stuck out like asore thumb. So I ended up cutting more glass to fit the sides. The old glass had a red hint. Not visable in the images. The new one had a more blue hint. Most would not see it. But once you saw it. It was always going to be seen.

Well done. I always found old glass would cut a lot worse (i.e. usually where I didn't want it to crack!) when trying to repurpose it. Fortunately I haven't done any in 20+ years now.

Few MOT fixes on brothers van today , New coil spring as old one snapped , Also top strut mount bearing was all clicky when stearing which only advisory but both sides replaced to be sure , Can just replace the bearing but just replaced whole unit

Then back in place wasn't terrible to get in and out wasn't easy was just a bit of time to learn your way around it and how to do it quickly and easily instead of fighting it then went fine.

Also sorted out tracking was steering off to one side so bits of string came out for old school tracking test drive tomorrow

Last weekend I had the same issue. I lost so much to to stress releif cracking. One small part warped on me.

My dad had a demolition company at one time so never brought new glass, he used to get old glass from his jobs and cut to size . One thing he did say was to get the glass warm as it was less likely to have unwanted breakages , how true it is I don’t know but dad swore by it

No, a You tube expert at MIS manged to do this.
When asked to explain why he was "ducking up good tools"
his replay it was not done to UK regulations. So he had to do the job correctly.
What annoyed us was the simple fact.
It was already on a shaft.

So I took it home.

Cleaned it up.

Brazed it up. fitted to the shaft and waxed it.

When asked to explain why he was "ducking up good tools"
his replay it was not done to UK regulations. So he had to do the job correctly.
What annoyed us was the simple fact.
It was already on a shaft.

nothing exciting . Removing broken or missing parts from one tractor to another as its getting traded in.

Repaired my hammer drill, it burned out the connections between the brush holder/reverse switch and the field windings. The field windings had a couple of mm movement in the housing, didn't appear to be right so spent the extra £10 on a new housing, glad I did as the new field windings are a tight fit in the new housing and woudn't go in without a bit of help, I'm sure the movement contributed to the connections burning out.

Nothing engineering related but, last night I dropped the remote for the tele sound bar into my cup of tea! O dear I said (or something like it) as the tea drained out through the battery cover. I washed it out under the tap, Mrs C had the oven on earlier, so put it in a warm oven for an hour & success it works. I never expected that, I thought it would be dead

A gate

Was fun drilling through 7" of concrete for the lower hanger. Latch end is temporary (part of the previous owners heavy duty swing I cut up and drove into the ground with the JCB) - whole fence could do with replacing.

Simple one, mag drill stopped working.



Took the brushes out and looks like someone had already changed one as the wire was so short the spring was having little or no effect.



Had a look for something close in the spares bin.



Some plate glass and production paper soon had it down to size.



Soldered back together and it all works as it should.



Had a look on line and found a set for £28+ vat + postage.

I think I'll look a bit further, but drill is working fine again so might take some time.

What model is it @Pete. ? I have a Rotabroach Midi here with a good magnet but the comm has a chunk missing. Maybe they’d make one good machine between them?

I’ve a base off something as well which I can dig out. It’s a 110v. Not rotabroach. Begins with J. Which is going begging if use?
