New shape transit custom hard return PAS pipe from rack to reservoir.
It’s an alu pipe into a steel housing with a steel clamp and they corrode and fracture. I got asked to removed the broken off bit from inside the port on the rack
Plan A was to remove from van and machine it out. As I was passing I thought I would look. Stud extractor to break the oxide bond and a slide hammer / self tapper to remove it. Easy enough and happy customer.
No during pic as I was busy thinking!!
Anyone with these, check your pipes as it’s common. Feed pipe is mild and that didn’t look too clever either!

Usually a suitable torx bit hammered in get them out.

Sorry guys, fixing power steering, tyres and engine blocks just doesn’t compare.
I’ve single handed averted a zombie apocalypse by fixing mankind most important invention. Yes, the coffee machine is working again and producing delicious, hot, caffeine rich, wake up juice again.
Suddenly I don’t feel the urge to kill other people anymore, even the wife is now pleasant.

Today [OK, yesterday] I finally got the hydraulic press welded, painted and reassembled. Hopefully the reinforcing bars either side of the top beam will prevent it 'bowing' again if it's working hard - not something I anticipate......

Doing a service on the (new to me) JCB 3CX, and had to clear a very clogged up sediment bowl. Unscrewed it and removed the bowl, and the 'swirl funnel' came off as well.
After a very good clean and inspection I could see no breakage in the plastic funnel, nor how it was supposed to be retained in it's 'against the lid' position. I suspect they rely on the flexibility of the plastic to grip round features of the inlet and outlet, but being 25 years old it's not too springy. Funnel apparently not available individually, and the whole assembly a silly price so time to get inventive. Suitable long weak spring found in the spring stash, and funnel now firmly held in place

Yes and they want £75 for a second hand sediment bowl! Had loads from them recently, new water radiator, a valve block for the Extra-Dig, all the filters, and loads of little things like oil pressure switch, radiator cap etc.

Repaired 2 of these today, Ni-Mh battery needed replacing. Mind you had to use V65ht rather than the V40 fitted, half the price. Could have bought a new one for the cost of a V40 Ni-Mh, but would rather fix than throw.

I just got back to the forum after a few hectic weeks of trying (unsuccessfully, so far) to sell a house, entertaining out-of-town guests for a couple of weeks, and various other stuff. I'm now in project mode again, and I just converted our 1953 Ford tractor to a breakerless ignition system (see photos). I also replaced a few gauges/wires/switches and did a comprehensive tune-up. It runs great, and I gave it a good test by mowing another six acres of fields. IF I have time this winter, I'd love to do a total ground-up cosmetic restoration of the tractor, but I suspect that some other things on the honey-do list might intervene.

Rebuilt, with braze and an old cast metal bed spanner.
It was here I found the four bench mounting holes were tapered.
After washing soda de-greasing, caustic soda paint stripping and citric acid de-rusting I loosely assembled it.
One fixing was to bad to save, the square head bolt holding the pillar to the base. I have started looking for one, but for now it is fixed with a whit grub screw.
From this.

This hybrid plane came my way the other day. Old, complete and free of worm.
A bit a research told me it is a:
Stanley Baily No.26.
This was confirmed during the clean up.
This damage, as slight as it looks does cause a big issue with the planes operation. In use the body will skew to that side. Making good cuts difficult.
So, a bit more was recovered from a dead plane. Thank you kind person for the donations.
The missing section was cut back and a rebate was formed, letting is a bit of wood from another plane it was glued and clamped into place.
This is after trimming back with a block plane, next is sanding and scraping.
The metal work was removed. To prepare it for painting. it was boiled in hot caustic soda.
The dried, primed and painted with a coat of Ford (Europe) Paint C Pitt black, as advised by Stanley UK. Shame no one local to me had any in stock in a rattle can, so I used Ford Black from a well know outlet.
Fresh from paint removal and de rusting. Here it is being dried on a hot plate.
Only new parts are:
The wood repair.
The paint.
The French polish.
This one does not have the normal cracks on the sole plate. A know difficult repair to do with out the plate twisting.
In rebuild.
The white stuff you see on the screw is wax. The surplus was used to help wax the paint work. The French polish still needs about 24 hours to be hard enough to take a good waxing.
Finished, this picture does not show how well the brass fittings turned out or the shine on the wood.

My Karcher K3 power washer developed an internal leak. My fault for leaving it in the barn over winter. So took it apart.
Here's the pump and motor assembly.
Pump detached. Not sure what oil came out but it had a metallic shimmer. The washer hasn't done much work so not built to last.
I can now see the problem, or at least one, they may be more. The frost had pushed the o ring out of the joint. You can see it in the bottom left quadrant of the picture below.
O ring is a couple of quid. Once I find out what the oil is I'll order the o ring and oil if I don't have it. No rush as I've fixed it with one of these
The missus went a over t on the mossy flags outside the chicken shed so it gave me an excuse to get one that will last. The Karcher K3 cost me 85 quid last year they are now "reduced" to 140 quid.
I'll build a trolley for it with hose reels, and remember to tuck it up somewhere warmer over winter.
