Finally sorted the downpipe out, temporarily had it draining into the sink. I was thinking I'd have to get someone to 3d print me a branch at a funky angle, I didn't know they made 92.5 degree elbows. It seems they don't do 92.5 branches.

ladies and gentlemen of the 'new to electricals' club if you please.....

please please bear the following in mind and consider it a imprisonable offence if you do not.

NEVER EVER EVER use insulation tape to wrap looms! it degrades with time or heat or fuel or oil or just about any condition imaginable and leaves a nasty mess after a short time. add to that, even when new it looks crap!


please use loom tape. it has that name for a reason!
I've just spent 4 hours going from this mess (wish id taken detailed pics!)

to this....

much better.

note the two new econoseal connectors for the indicators and the lack of tangling. I've also extended and repaired the horn loom so that will work now. (twisted together and taped is no good, gentlemen!)

its rather unhappy. i was trying to diagnose a start and dies issue (which i have now found the electrical fault causing it) and it locked up.

not very surprising...

span a conrod bearing. explains why 'it started rattling and lost power'

tt600. £300 warranted engine with 28k on it is winging its way towards me now.

the cause is obvious... the silicone fairy has at some point visited rather than fitting new casing gaskets. and he used so much i found lumps of silicone in the coolant passageways round the cylinder liners!

As for the silicone fairy, you see them on u tube squirting a great thick line along a joint like they're icing a cake!
What squeezes out on the external will be the same inside

Spent a little more time today on the Fobco pillar drill and when taking the cover plate off to check the wiring, I was pleasantly surprised find several papers folded up and stowed inside; including a wiring schematic for the AEG motors on the Fobco Universal, 7 Eight, and 10 Eight machines. Here is a photo of it for anyone who has one of these pillar drill's or may be interested.

The " Gentleman "( for want a better word ) who was the P/O of my bungalow managed an excellent job of using twisted 2.5 T&E and sellotape to extend his only three single power points in the bungalow to bring it up to eight single sockets

His insertion of 16 x 50 watt halogen lights in the ceilings was smashing .. once he'd cut through several roof trusses to get them dead center patterns in the rooms and hallway etc.

We only found that out after we'd been in here 12 hrs or so and had all the lights on when we smelt charring wood & a funny melting plastic aroma.

Quality job!

I did a rewire years ago and some of the old sockets were wired in bell wire poked down the gaps in the floor boards!

Nothing big in the grand scheme of things but these secateurs go everywhere, they are nothing special but who designs gardening stuff to be camouflaged, every time you drop them they disappear !!

A bit of yellow heat shrink should help!

Replacing gears in my milling head.
Motor has been running a bit too hot as well. Might have to replace it since the brush holders have melted and the brass is out of position.

Slightly different, but I had a colleague who was into hill-walking in a big way. He announced one day he'd bought a new canvas wallet in camouflage colours especially for taking with him. It wasn't until I pointed out the potential that he realised his mistake.....
