I Forgot I had my watch on whilst welding earlier. A spatter landed on the end of the dial knob. Used a nail file to file it down and then braso to buff it up. Very happy as it was like 1mm blog on it

I’ve never worn a watch for work since I was an apprentice and was helping the foreman , he had just greased the speedo cable on his own car and had me hold the cable off of the seats while he fed it into the outer cable, his expanding watch strap shorted out on his instrument panel causing a nasty burn on his wrist.

Probably why it is recommended you disconnect the battery before working on cars

I've not worn rings or watches for ages for fear of catching them on electrical or mechanical things when my hands are buried in machinery.

Exactly this, I had my Casio strap across a 12v transformer I was turning into a battery charger, took me a second or two to twig what the pain was. Every link imprinted into my wrist. On another day I dragged my hand across the open edge of a door - the brass bar caught my silver ring - ripped it clean open. Better that taking my finger off I suppose.
So no watch or wedding ring for me since.
Oddly, I can usually tell the time to within 20 minutes, lunchtime within 10...

I removed this on Friday,amongst other things,the sprocket needs realignment by shaving 3.2mm off the inside and one of the self aligned bearings has a cracked housing.had to get angry with that sprocket,it wouldn’t budge.
Can you guess what it is?

I have a rubber strap with rubber cover on the watch. The only exposed metal is the little button on the band and the small knob on the side of the watch.

Worked with a guy in Germany (Hi Lambert ) who shorted a welder through his wedding ring . . . managed to not do it for 20 yrs, but one morning, he nearly lost a finger. Was off work a couple of weeks, came back with a still very charcoal looking band of skin around that digit . . .

Seen a finger degloved. FIL used to be a policeman and worked with a guy who chased a scrote over a fence. Landed on the other side minus finger - it and wedding ring were still on the palisade!!

I am surprised if not astounded that it has been several hours since Kim’s comment and no one has commented on getting weld splatter on ones knob

My dad and his brother were taking a shortcut through ICI Billingham in their teens (not up to no good, but it was a hell of a long walk around the perimeter fence ) when a security guy spotted them and shouted the classic "Oy! I want a word with you!".
So they legged it and climbed the fence, which of course had a barbed wire top. My uncle jumped down, catching his signet ring on a barb and leaving his finger up there.

One of my exes was an A&E nurse for 25 years and some of the tales she told would make your teeth curl.

I've seen ceramic rings designed to get around the electrical and crushing dangers but I imagine they'll still deglove you before they shatter so no help in that regard.
