Today I fixed one of my a Petzl Pixa 3R head torches
The battery was stuffed, so I went online looking for a replacement and they want £35 odd.
I'm not paying that so I robbed the battery from one of the cheap Chinese head lights that are everywhere at the moment.
This one cost me £5.
I removed the battery and soldered it to the terminals.
I couldn't get the battery lid back on but it's a tight fit so that's no problem.
It charges on the original docking station to do I'll call that job done.

Historically the tailgate on the 6x6 hinged off some brackets welded onto the chassis. This was annoying, particularly as I'm making the bed detachable so I found some channel in the scrap pile that was a decent fit inside the other channel. Drilled and bolted it and then bolted on the hinge pins.
There's a few mods that need doing which will involve welding but as it's a fully welded 8x5.5ft all aluminium bed out of minimum 8mm thick channel it needs some power. So will batch things up and take it around to a make who has a 450A tig.

Since all the key parts have finally turned up for the old rough terrain forklift, I figured I better start with fixing the cracks on the rear axle carrier.
Top side was fairly easy, and my welds weren't too bad considering it's been a while since I've used any rods-
Bottom side however was a bit of a different story, and didn't look too bad initially-
But that crack up the left hand side down and across at quite an acute angle, and after grinding/burring sideways over an inch, I gave up chasing the crack-
And welded it-
It's been cracked since we bought the forklift over 10 years ago, so I'm settling for the "good enough" approach

Last few months I have been involve in gathering tools and such so a local town museum can put on a temporary display to celebrate its coal history, the wanted to show the route coal took from the Coal yard to the home.
Most of the items on our list were easy to find.
Coal shovel, fireside set, coal scuttle, coal bucket. Even a coal bunker.
For the coal yard side we had all but a pick axe. Yes I know we could of given them you standard pick axe. We even acquired a coal mine pick, shovel, coal points etc. But a Coal yard long handle pick was hard to find.
But........
We had this in the Scrap pile.
It was no use as a pick axe, but we hoped the point end could be reformed into a coal pick axe. We had historical images and photos of the style of pick we needed.
As traditional coal yards died of the tools were lost. I recall 2 coal yards in my home town. Plus the coke factory and gasometers.
Chisel point reformed, hardened and tempered.
This is what's made this a Somerset Coal pick, the shape of this end.
As I said we could of given them a normal pick axe, as we knew the old coal workers would be invited, we had to try to get it right.
Tghe handle was cleaned up. here it is being drowned in Linseed oil.
All done, now with the town council.

This was done by a MIS member. It was a good jib, but the final paint leaves me wondering.
De rusted, the striking end reformed and now ready for primer.
But...........
That will be lost in the dark corners of the Shed.

Good question, one I will be answering in the future, when I have gone and measured it.

My partner's MX5.
Not starting whilst I was away last week.
She didn't think it was the battery even though it's 10 years old and was reading 12.7V on a multimeter, because when she grabbed my truck and the jump cables, it still wouldn't start and just slow cranked...
But it seemed to have spark, and power to the fuel pump from her initial investigation, so we agreed to take a look together once I was home, thinking it might be ECU related or a relay.
After about five minutes initial poking around, I got my Jelly-senses started tingling, and I popped the multimeter that lives in her boot on the jump cables from under my passenger seat...
No continuity in the +ve jump cable...
Borrowed a NOCO jump pack from next door and the MX5 fired up first time, fitted a new battery and it's happy as ever.
I have been told to get better jump cables, and she's considering getting a little NOCO pack for her boot.

Changed the belt on the machine...then the crimp failed!
Too late for shops so I put a jubilee on it. I was surprised how weak the original crimp was...very thin Ali.
The original did work fine...reckon I snagged it pulling the machine out.

My wooden handled post hole digger. One end just snapped a while back where it bolts though the shovel bit .

Having the handles at slightly different heights seems to work better as you can't bang your knuckles together now.

Woke up this morning to the (sliding) leccy gates wide open???
Noticed one photocell had no red LED on. Spent 3 hours in the garage looking for the spare pair to no avail. Did at least find some floor.
Half a thought the spare ones might be in the house...they were!
Took the non lit one out to find it was just a wire broken off
