Stuff you have fixed today

Had (supposedly) a couple check out of one of our holiday cottages yesterday and was rather dreading what I might find.

When they arrived it was a lady and her 15 year old daughter who was having a birthday - could they please use the BBQ - yes but it's been put away for the winter . . . wife got it out for them . . I was doing accounts in my next door office and heard odd noises. To my horror found woman about to light the BBQ under the wooden porch and was liberally dowsing it with lighting fluid. OK got it shifted to a safer place and left them to it but was it ok if a couple of relatives called in to say hello . . of course we said yes. She lights up and we have 8 foot flames shooting up She didn't need fluid anyway as we'd given her the self lighting charcoal !

People start arriving and party still going when I go to bed at 11:30 hoping they don't burn the place down. Of course numerous supernumeraries stay over but by the 10 am leaving time they are gone - but what am I going to find . . .

Firstly can't get in - sofa blocking front door - how the heck did they get out? Forcing my way in I find a large puddle of water on the floor (flower vase still on table but empty) and the (broken) toilet seat lying in two bits on the floor. Remains of broken wine glass and bits everywhere.

My job's the toilet seat as cleaners can do the rest ! It's all there EXCEPT one of the hinge pins - no where to be seen. Just a bit of 6 mm x 40 mm stainless bar - do I have any - NO! OK I find a 10 mm A4 bolt and turn it down to 6 mm and we can re-assemble the bog seat.

Now I find those three prong toilet seat nuts very difficult to grip to tighten properly so a bit back I 3D printed a gizmo that gives me better grip - can I find it - hooray yes (why was it in my desk drawer ??) - bog seat refitted and I left the cleaner muttering about uncivilized people who shouldn't be allow air to breath

It's in the hands of a booking agency so no real control from our end.

Theoretically we could go back through the agency that took the booking - broken wine glass - we'd not have charged even if they'd told us. Broken toilet seat - my labour only - well a 10 mm A4 bolt I suppose, but again not worth the hassle.

Now had I not spotted her lighting up under the porch and she'd set fire to the place it would have been a multi tens of thousands of repairs and a claim for lost income but would she have had any money - probably not - address is a tower block in not the best bit of Waltham Cross.

Yes it was more then three - but it's water under the bridge and frankly life is too short to lose sleep over !

Nightmare tenants, had a couple in our gîte.

Meanwhile, lovely woman who is half of a couple building an eco place across the road.. No power today in the place they are living in town, while they build by us.
Said, if no improvement, I could look at it. BTW, it has been biblical raining for a few days here. lakes in fields, water falls across roads and, realy gets my goat, leaks in my workshop roof!
Anyway, I went over in the PM and found the 30ma trip for the board would not stay set, despite all the fuses being out. After looking all over, found another wire connected to the +e out of the trip, but leading off without a fuse. Disconnected that and it all worked. Hubby coming back from working on a project by Paris in a day or so, so he can find out where the wire goes.
She, and elderly father very pleased... as no heat in house.

Last few days the main oven was playing up.
Food was being cooked, but un evenly. A few checks and it was proven the LHS element was not working fully. Its internal resistance was a not more than the rest, so not heating.

Parts ordered from a local shop.
No images of the fixing, but a nice easy fix.

Old faithful, my parts washer stopped working.

Contentunity showed the pump was dead.

The old pump, you can see the built up crud.

I begged a favor from a hire place. This old, but good unit was mine for £5. It was from their scrap bin.

3 fixings and a few connections we were back up and working.

This hot air engine was apig from day one.

I got it running, but very badly.
Until it seized and bent and broke many parts.

Every part in this images is bent or seized.

My last try, but it ran, but very clunky, until it locked up, again.

One of the many repairs, a split.

Apart from the baad welds, this was the standard I was dealing with.

The screw threads are all but striped. When the cylinder got hot. It would bind on the edges, bowing the walls inwards, impleading the piston.

After all repairs done, this is post steam.

After degreasing and cleaning, here we see the parts drying.

Part 2.

If this image could talk.
The bearings were removed, freed up and lubricated. The pivot points were honed to fit.

The fly wheel was also treated to new bearings, The piston assembly was cleaned and new seals.

All most there, Just have to drill out to align the cylinder and piston assembly to the frame.

the plasterboard at the end of my workshop fell down quite some time ago due to damp issues caused by the massive open hole in the floor whilst i was building my pit. ive finally gotten around to sorting that out..

Our Ender 3 Max Neo at work. Thought it wouldn't extrude because the nozzle was blocked. Changed the nozzle and the Bowden Tube (Fitted a blue Capricorn Tube) Still wouldn't extrude. Turned out there was a wire off the front fan causing heat creep and a blockage in the heat break tube.

Don't know whether this should be in the stuff you've broken or fixed...

Finally got the hub and bearing out of the Range Rovers hub. Popped back and used my neighbours press as it's table was better suited for this job than mine. Went to press out the hub from the bearing and there was a small bang at 7t and balls went a flyin. Inner race was seized to the hub's stub shaft and came with it. Ah well, I was probably going to replace it anyway after this about of faffing.

Then managed to remove this reasonably large 4" circlip and then pressed out the other half of the bearing. Now to cut off the inner race, clean everything up and reassemble.

We did try heating the race and cooling it to shatter it with his Oxy setup setup but he was running low on Oxy so didn't succeed in getting it hot enough.

Started taking this hardinge lathe to bits to change the bearings in the saddle, I'm sure I took pics but cant find them.
