Here it is - the family pet. My father got it 30ish years ago and used it frequently for trips away. We don't use it as much due to time. Work is the curse of the driving class...
Fun fact - a lot of parts are British Leyland parts bin, since Rolls Royce were small volume manufacturers. It "failed to proceed" for my father on a trip away a few years ago when a fuel pump failed. It is a standrd Morris Minor item, and since RR didn't trust Lucas like any sensible company, it had 2 of them as run and standby. We found out the primary pump had been dead for years and the standby pump finally gave up the ghost. At the last WOF it needed a new headlight - standard 6" lucas glowworm in a jar.

If you drive down the A1M and take the Mansfield turn off (heading south) driving uphill there is a pub on your left (or there was fifty years ago) and it was the same fifty years ago I changed the gearbox in a Hillman Imp in that Pub car park. I had a pal with me who helped out and we both froze I think ewe were well north of Weatherby before we started to warm up. It was a horrendous experience but two kids on their way home with a knackered gearbox wasn't going to happen so I managed to get a replacement from a scrap yard and fit it. Don't ask how, I have no idea, but we did it.

When I was 18 the clutch release bearing on my Sunbeam S8 500 cc shaft drive motor cycle packed in, and I removed the entire engine from the frame in the yard at the Kyle of Tongue Youth Hostel ( north coast of Scotland on Pentland Firth) and replaced it. Like you goodness only knows how I managed it but I did !

when I got back home to Chelsea and could read the manual I found that it could have been done without removing the engine . . . . Argh

Today I've fixed (again, and for the time being) the mighty 206GTI which had a bit of an MOT failure the other day.

To be honest, I thought twice about saving it. It owes us nothing. I think we paid about £500 for it back in 2018, and since then the Mrs has put 50K miles on it commuting to work and fully abused it (it's been on mulitple track days and autotests, and she's generally thrashed it every where).

But for some strange reason I quite like the old girl, and I'd hate to think of it going through the crusher. Plus there's only 600 or so of the 138bhp GTI's still on the road, (from an original 13000) so its probably worth saving, at least for the time being.

So a reconditioned rear axle (for the second time) and a reconditioned steering wheel COM Unit to fix the fog light issue, and a handful of bulbs and we're back on the road.

It seemed a bit pointless putting 100K mile bits back onto the new axle though, so whilst it's been in bits I've treated it to new wheel bearings, shocks, brake pipes and handbrake cables, cleaned up the underside and slapped some underseal on, and generally given it a bit of a clean up.

Which joins the front suspension rebuild it had last year, when it failed on wishbones (for the 100th time) and front Shocks.

If its really lucky I might even sort out the rust that's starting to appear around the wheel arch lips (or is that one step too far?)

This Care Earth Leakage Tester came my way the other day.

The lid was seized tight, the hinges were the issue.

But opening it, it was complete and even better.
It worked.

Copper on show, this and the new hinges were New Old stock from the manufacture.

In the clean up.

Off cuts from a old car wing were turned into a scraper.

Finished.

Now on its way to its new owner.

This Gone Fishing Zippo came my way the other day.
It needed a good service and a clean.

Plus a lot of force to get it apart.
The white smears you can see, is glue.
I had to tease Nail varnish remove into the gap between the case and the body.

A good feed and wax and this now is soft and flexible.

It did not need a new flint or wick, just a good clean and the wrong fuel residue removed.

Not really fixed, but tidied up and made useful.

Small wooden box.

With some very useful BA taps and dies.

Gel Shellac and medical alchol.
Made some nice polish.

All More and White gear.

This was an excuse to see a friend and abuse his copy lathe and coffee.

The Brick hammer was used to the point the chisel point was bent and the working face soft.

I even found a name on it.

Home made wedges.

Filling the voids with resin.

The head does not need the resin for strength, but looks.

A good going over with pure Linseed oil.

A old Army chipping hammer.
WD stamps of 1938 and a number.

Not one wedge held it on.

Boiled up in Citric acid and grinding paste.

The end grain came up well.

This was pig, from start to finish.

It was badly fitted to the shaft, it was pitted and had been attacked with an angle grinder.

This does not show haw bad it was.

This was after I tidied it up a bit.

The wedge was bad.

That is because it is a washer.

A sand and alick with a blow torch, the brunt look.

This is how bad the head was:
Pitted.
Out of shape.
Badly shaped.

Re-Tempering the edges. A nice blue colour was reached.

This does give some serious heat.

Good idea, poor kit.

The depth is only 3mm at the deepest, but the head was out of shape and it did creep.

Thunderbox in my house started to whiff... so today pulled the boxing off, & found the (36yo) Durgo Valve was no longer playing.
Ordered one from Screwfix, fixed & tightened a couple of pipe fittings - then picked up thr new one.
Bit of silicon grease & popped the new Durgo on - so far the Thunder Room is whiff free.
I'll leave it a day or two before boxing the waste pipe back in - just in case.

36 years! That's lasted well. I end up changing mine probably every 10 - 12 years.

Started the Kawasaki H2 750 rebuild this afternoon with my lad.

Found middle crankcase oil gallery to main bearing clogged solid, same cylinder that had big end bearing play..

He's decided to have the bike stripped down and frame / swingarm powder coated. Fair enough as we are that far in now anyway..

Yamaha TRX 850 recommission.

Carb stripped and rebuilt with new Keyster Full carb kits.

Seized calipers stripped cleaned and rebuilt with new seal kits etc.

Fork seals replaced and stanchions polished.

Alarm removed and loom repaired.

Charging system repaired.

New plugs and air filter.

Bits and pieces to get it to MOT standard.

Didn't really charge what we had in it but nice to see it back on the road!.

Multistrada part two..

Ducati wanted £860 for a fuel pump assembly.

Bought a good quality replacement pump kit for £100.

Had to re-do some ground wiring as wasn't happy with the oem wire.

New air filter while we were in there.

Gave his frame a good clean while it was in bits.
