Hello all
I was hoping for some advice on how to deal with an issue i've encountered on a meddings drill i acquired a couple of years ago.
The jaws of the chuck that is currently in the press started to refuse to grip smaller drills (2mm and below), so i elected to procure a new chuck and arbor (MT2 as far as i can tell - and according to meddings).
Now my problem arose straight away when i got the drift key & hammer ready to give it a tapping, only to find that the tang appears to be sitting well below where it should be:
The entire drill arbor looks to be sitting lower that expected too?:
I can only assume that the arbor that is currently in there is the wrong size and has just become stuck over time?
Now i've tried the following to get the arbor and chuck out:
1. Very mild encouragment on the top of the chuck - no effect
2. A few good squirts of WD on the tang and hoping it penetrated to assist with removal - no effect (WD just pooled and sat there for 2 days)
I was going to try the following:
1. Bought some plusgas penetrating oil (see if this fair better than WD)
2. Put something above the tang (maybe a nut) and seeing if i can get a key in there to facilitate removal
3. Try some chuck removal wedges - and hope the whole thing pops out.
What do you folks think of my plans?, has anyone got any other suggestions? (i'm no expert so i'm all ears on this!)
Thanks in advance!
