OH yes well gone on those fire rings !! lucky it skimmed !
If it was I, whilst in there I'd be fitting a new chain... split it and join and pull the new one through and round the crank also new head bolts as the old ones can be a pain for the drive slipping, oh and copper slip them well too.

We're on the same train norm , I've done chain and bought new bolts
All genuine Mercedes as well I still feel sick from handing all most 6 hundred quid over for parts earlier​

I know!, but I have over done it a bit, glow plugs/ timing chain/ New head bolts/ every seal and O ring that's been disturbed and all the filters for a service .

There isn't any valve caps under the lifters.
You can use 15w40 mineral or 10w40 low ash/low saps.

Nice one I've got a few hundred litres of good 10w/40,
It's the seats/ platforms under the springs I was wondering about.

£600 Jesus you didn't get any discount.
I wouldn't have bothered with the chain as they don't stretch on them, never ever known one snap or stretch in the 10 years I've worked at merc, even the old boys say they've never known a failure.
Also the head bolts only require chancing if they've stretched which is easy to measure.
Merc don't state to change the chain or head bolts unless they've passed the max stretch limit.

not wishing argue but I have done several that the chain rattled like a train,? and the head bolts are a pain for rounding done three that other people have sheared the top section and had to drill out the head of the bolts to get the heads off !.

I got trade discount on the bits but like I said I had a few bits that I perhaps shouldn't have, (antifreeze) and the Mercedes sealer for the top of the timing cover, I'm still unsure how to use it though? It's like a big syringe with no plunger

Tell me about it, I've only done 100 miles in it, I'm seething, it's making me bad, the bloke who sold it to me is local and swears it was all good and I'm a miethering t#at ,
He wants to duke it out on the phone, I don't.
But I can't go to see him just yet as emotions are high if you follow.

The sealer is placed in a Mercedes special tool which is basically a tiny silicon gun.
I'll have a look at the picture at work for the washers under the spring but merc are happy to make a modification at any stage and you'll only know when you read the work instructions which has an update stating the change.

he could well be telling the truth, the gasket could have finally let go during the 100 or so miles you drove, unless it was kicking water out ever since you've had it, if not then he probably had no idea
