Drilling and trenching, I pay a good rate and it's currently £41 per metre drilled and loop installed

A big job with 62 deep boreholes and artesian issues is projected to cost north of £1million just for drilling

I considered ground source, with RHI…..I-have the acres…till I was told Id need a survey for newts and an archioligist whiles its all been dug….and if they find anything the job stops…

but mixed with mines they are interesting

same with the gas being taken out from under you

think it cant affect a city think again

think all you want about bore holes

but theres plenty of mines in the uk that can turn into sink holes never mind the disused mines known or unknown

Why and who did you ask to be told that?

If its my land, just dig a trench.

You would like to think so, however the array will require planning and it may come with ecology requirements

I deal with this on a daily basis

Unless you have a few spare acres you won't have room for slinkies, not a properly designed system anyway

3 bed semi is going to need 10 or so kw, depending on ground conductivity and geology budget on 1 or 2 boreholes so £60k is a good estimate

There's a reason 99.99% of ground source is shared loop and commercial, the reason is cost

Ive been watching a few videos and there plenty that are nowhere near several acres. Including a guy i know who did a barn conversion.A big gargen yes, but acres, no.

There no requirement for planning for stuff thats not visible? At least as i understand it. If you are in an SSI then yes, im sure there are issues.

Yes there are, planning is required (and not always given) for the arrays
Add to that coal authority permission if it's a coal area

Sadly you can't just dig a huge trench or a 200m borehole without getting permission

If they are open loop boreholes then you definitely require notification / permission from the Environmental agency and are required to monitor and keep records of abstraction and discharge on an ongoing basis. They can at any time they choose stop you using the boreholes so you also need a plan B.

Anyone planning ground source, please do not go open loop.

There are some people who love it, I could give you eleventy million reasons however to not do it, the above is not even top of the list

the bottom end is too tight anyway for a loop system

I meant the way it was installed, no track mats, no PPE, trip hazards all over the place

Wouldn't last 5 minutes on my sites

Im national park and ANOB. With potential iron age settlements. And planning is required for everything
